The remake of Stephen King's "It" premieres this Friday, September 8, and people cannot contain their excitement. In fact, they might be a little too involved in the crazy clown's highly anticipated return— so involved that they're scaring the hell out of people.
This past Tuesday the Lititz Borough Police Department of Pennsylvania (located in the Lancaster area) had a very different type of 'incident' to report:
It was residents of the small town (or was it...) who started tying red balloons to storm grates are the area in anticipation of the new movie. The subtle but effective stunt got people talking immediately and foreshadowed high attendance for the premiere in PA.
PA residents have been ready for the return on the terrifying clown before they even knew it— No one from State College, PA will forget when a handful of mysterious clowns took over the town in the middle of the night. But they aren't the only ones showing their excitement for the movie in this creepy (but awesome) way.
The same red balloons starting popping up all over Sydney, Australia this past week. It looks like the balloons weren't only left to creep out passers by but also to get them thinking about the film's release, as the nearby sidewalk was stamped with an eerie promotional message, “It is closer than you think. #Itmovie in cinemas September 7," as the movie premieres a day earlier there than in the States.
All in all: Everyones really, REALLY excited for the premiere. I myself can't wait to catch the movie and start feeling Halloween-y. And, while I can appreciate the creativity and shock value of this stunt, if I catch even the slightest glimpse of what I think might be a clown or a balloon in the theatre... I'm out.
