"Your beauty is born from pain."

Recovering From Sadness

We've all been there. We've all had bad days and worse days. There are times when all hope is lost, and the only feeling at the moment is pain. Straight pain. For reasons unique to all of us, things just don't go our way and we're simply devastated.

Though, that's life. Life isn't meant to be perfect and all wonderful. Sadness is much as an emotion as is happiness. It's a part of us, and we have to accept it. Here's how.

1. Release

Sadness and pain make us do things whether it involves crying, punching, whatever. The important thing is to express your emotion. That's how you fully accept the situation.

The tears, the anger, the disappointment. Let it all out. Doing so may look and feel horrific, but it'll open you to peace, clarity, and reason.

2. Vent

After letting out your emotion, there will be feelings which will require a conversation to be let out. You need someone to help you with this. It'll have to be someone you trust whether it be a family member, a close friend, or even prayer.

Regardless, it is important to discuss your feelings with somebody. Even if you're not ready to share them, it's important to not be alone.

3. Rest

At this point, you're going to be exhausted from what you've just been through. It's time to relax and let your mind and body heal. No matter what happens, you still have responsibilities and things that require your attention.

You need to be ready. Yes, it will be hard to sleep, but it is not impossible. It can and will be done.

4. Learn

It's going to be difficult to remember the situation of why you're in pain. You don't want to relive that moment again, but the only way out is through. It's important to reflect on what happened and learn from it.

When you learn from it, you will know how to prevent it from happening again, and when another painful situation arises, you'll be ready.

5. Embrace

When you learn something, there's opportunity. When there's opportunity, anything is possible. The road ahead will be long and hard, but with the experience under your belt, you'll be capable of tackling new situations.

Going through pain is a horrible feeling, but once that feeling ends, the pain is now yours to command. Use it to make you happy again.

Everything is going to be alright.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
