There are many dates on the calendar unknown to most, celebrating different events, people, or things. One fine example is National Love Your Pet Day on February 20th. This day celebrates the special love that animals give to us and the bond that results from that love. Such a day also promotes owners to do a little extra for their pet and give them a little extra spoiling that day. Such a day should be more recognized considering the amount of love our pets gives us, without expecting much in return, as well as the giving us happiness just by having them.
Although people have a variety of pets, my personal experience with pets tends to be with large dogs. My dogs give me a huge amount of love and happiness and they fill my life with endless laughs. Owning dogs has taught me a lot about life and who I want to be towards others. They also can be extremely good for your health, whether it be physical, mental, or emotional health. Those battling with a mental disease, handicap, or a chronic illness can find a fuzzy ball of joy to be a huge positive being in a normally very stressful and hectic life. This is even proven by science and benefits have been stated by multiple studies, that all come to the same conclusion that dogs help us a lot, sometimes in ways, we don't realize.
That being said, our dogs (or other pets) are a huge benefit to have in our lives, so we should recognize this national day of celebration for pets more. Celebrate however you see fit, just let your pet know just how much they mean to you and how much you love them in return. If you need inspiration, some examples could be the following:
1.) Take them on a Car Ride
2.) Go to the Pet Store
3.) Go for a long walk/Trail
4.) Go see a pet best friend
5.) Give them a fantastic dinner
Whatever you decide to do, just show your best furry friend that they are the best thing to walk this earth. Make the day special for them, they deserve it after all the work they do to make our lives that much better.
