'Jane The Virgin' Season 2 And Some *Very Hopeful* Verdicts For Season 3
Hit Shows To Watch

Last Monday, May 15, marked the sophomore season finale of the God-sent modern take on a telenovela “Jane the Virgin.” And as usual, so. Much. Happened.

We collectively laughed, cried, screamed at the TV, etc., all the while sobbing when we remembered that we will be without the show and company for the next four to five months ahhhhhhh!!

If it isn’t obvious, here’s the deal: if you have yet to watch the season finale, have any interest in starting the series, or any other bat crazy reason for missing such a television event, do not read further! Spoilers ahead! (Don’t you just love that phrase? *giggles*)

Seriously, though: don't upset Alba, okay?

So, here’s what went down. I’ll try to be as brief as I can, but wish me luck. The day finally arrived!: the wedding of Jane and Michael!

Though I was on the edge of my seat the whole episode, I admit I let my guard down as this seemed almost on the verge of anticlimactic: silly me. Well, perhaps that’s not the right word: relatively calm, let’s say. Only a few minor (for Jane) hitches were afoot: a disastrous wedding rehearsal, Rafael struggling with his feelings for Jane on his big day, Rogelio being Rogelio, Anezka being only kind of sneaky. And then, everything happened all at once, and, in typical “Jane” fashion, was expected to be unexpected.

As a devoted fan and aspiring TV writer who’s been dissecting interviews with the writers and show runner for days now, here’s my take on some of the crazier aspects, in regard to the next season.

Seriously, if you haven’t watched, this is your last chance. Below this GIF of Rogelio lies what may be terrible secrets. Turn back now, or face spoilers.

Okay, you asked for it. Here it goes!

The number one thing on my, and the rest of #TeamMichael’s minds, HOLY FREAKING FRACK, IS MICHAEL OKAY?!

Most definitely.

Logistics first: they wouldn’t kill off such a likable and downright important character. I’m just as worn out on the ever changing Sin Rostro storyline, but without Michael, everyone’s doomed and no one is safe. No matter what Jane--who is our protagonist and will likely not get much closer to the deep dark action than she has before--will be tied to the Solanos and the Marbella forever due to her personal relationships, job there, and let’s not forget the living breathing Mateo, who’s father is apparently public enemy number one. But we’ll get to that. Bottom line: story wise, it would just be odd to bump him off. He’s in a dangerous place in his work, but killing him off would ultimately lead back to Jane and Rafael, most likely, which is something that the writers have made very clear was not meant to be and will not happen. Again, more on that later. His purpose as a character is for the protection of Jane and her family, which does include the Solanos and Petra, as well as be a father figure to Mateo and life partner for Jane. This is a comedy: he has to remain in a strong presence.

Now for the troubleshooting: it’s more than likely that crime lords don’t often miss a kill shot. But, there have been screw ups before when it comes to Sin Rostro and Muter. (Side note: that mask twist with Rose? What even!) Again, at its root, this show is more comedy than drama, not to mention more telenovela than logic: seriously, who saw a secret twin for Petra coming? That, with the character of Michael, his current situation with Jane, and overall story, there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s alive, but definitely not well.

Let me explain with my theory: Michael will be found, by likely Jane or a set of mysterious hands belonging for an associate of Sin Rostro, and will be hospitalized and in a coma for a couple of episodes. As far as the Muter storyline, this allows more to grow there, in the sense that with him out of the picture for the moment, things will get even hinkier (because apparently they can). Also, could there be a possibility of this being an elaborate plan for their (the bad guys’) protection against the Solanos due to a possible threat involving Jane? It happened before, and, as before, will lead to story rift.

TL;DR: Michael’s alive, but out of the line of duty for the time being, and story’s abrewin’.

The accidental love triangle: Rafael, Petra, and (that blasted- pun intended) Anezka.

Back to when I said who saw a secret twin for Petra coming: seriously, who thought that was some kind of weird hallucination, or something? Now, who saw the whole her masquerading as Petra coming? Petra’s trying so hard, and has mostly succeeded as of late, to be good, but her family will not let her, especially not now that Anezka staged an elaborate plan to get Petra #Petrafied, and who knows how long the plan will last!

According to show runner Jennie Snyder Urman in her Entertainment Weekly post finale interview, Magda (*angry face*) and Anezka’s plan involves gaining control of the Marbella BUT Magda doesn’t want either sister tied to Rafael. I’ve been worried about him pretty seriously for a while now. As for Petra, she will allegedly be brought back home and under Anezka’s watchful eye. And perhaps the large shadow of a hook to the ambiance of thunder an lightening signaling Magda’s troubling return looms sooner rather than later. I still predict her gruesome death of falling from a terrible height, poison, matricide, etc. coming as soon as this season, but will she ever be destroyed?

TL;DR: Petra needs her meddlesome family out of the picture, like, yesterday. I can’t say at all how she’s gonna get out of this one, but she will.

Xiomara.

I’ll keep this one short, since it’s the only cliffhanger that’s pretty open and shut. Friendly reminder that we last found Xiomara looking pretty worse for wear and with a positive pregnancy test. In the same interview mentioned previously, Urman seems to be speaking ominously on this topic. The way I see it, there’s no way this one’s going to see an end. And by that I mean there will be no new baby for a few possible reasons, but one seems more likely than the others. Ya know, the “alternative.” Also possible: miscarriage, or, more likely, a false positive.

TL;DR: There will be no new baby. But will this bring her closer to, or further away from Rogelio? Has there been a couple, other than maybe Ross and Rachel, that’s more on-again-off-again??

A Series of Unfortunate Events, Starring Rafael Solano.

But at least he's a hottie with a body, right? *drools*

My heart truly breaks for Raf. He tries so hard to trust and see the best in people. Though I am now and always have been Team Michael, it is completely not fair that he, Rafael, will never not be in love with Jane. Though I do believe that, eventually, merely being Mateo’s parents and nothing more will be enough for him. But until then, I am so proud of him for loving her enough to let her go. I really admire the writers for sticking to their guns: I firmly believe that Jane’s love for Rafael would never grow to more than a crush and mutual admiration and that they simply were not meant to be. But eventually, he will be okay. Though for a while, I’m not gonna lie: I was a little worried he was going to go AWOL and possibly try something very reckless and put himself in serious danger.

Now, I’m just worried about him going to jail. Seriously, could he be in a more complicated spot? He’s got babies with two different women, unintentionally and artificially; his family is either off the wall (Luisa), dead, or crime lords who constantly take advantage of and blackmail him; nothing’s going for him, at the moment. I understand he was a pretty serious playboy/party boy, but did he really do anything that awful to deserve where he is now? He’s a completely tragic character. Who’s to say what insane thing(s) is(are) next for him? Honestly, I’d say it’d be more likely for him to be bumped off than Michael. Maybe he’ll have a kidnapping situation, or something along those lines next?

TL;DR: The Solanos are loose canons. Rafael will always be in some form of difficult position, but he deserves a wonderful love life. He’ll get there.

Man, was that a lot: it’s a complicated show, and that wasn’t even the half of it, just the cliffhangers! If you’re not on the Jane train, come on aboard! Also, if you aren’t or just read this and had it all spoiled, shame! Why would you do that? Anyway, here’s to speculating for the next four to five months! As typed at the end of every episode: to be continued…

Until the fall, Jane. We love you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
