We've all heard of those generalities regarding college. A lot of them are true, but not all of them are. Yes, the food is not exactly your momma's delicious home cooking and yes, finding a parking spot is extremely difficult, but not everything you hear about college is exactly how it is.
1. All-nighters aren't super realistic.
We all need sleep, so there comes a point when you tell yourself that you need to stop studying and go to bed. So yes, you might stay up past 3 a.m., but you won't necessarily be pulling all-nighters.
2. You don't need coffee to survive.
Hard to believe, but yep, I've made it this far and I'm still going strong. Actually, the one evening I decided to have some iced coffee I laid awake for hours and then my sleeping schedule got off which made me more tired the next day (just saying).
3. You won't mind doing laundry on your own.
Now this one is half true, half false. You have no problem (or at least you shouldn't have a problem) doing your own laundry because you are a capable, mature young adult who enjoys feeling fresh in clean clothing. What you have a problem with is paying about $6 to do one load of darks and one of whites PLUS the price of detergent when you can go home where it is free to use the machines.
4. Leaving home is still hard.
Going back to school after your freshmen year is exciting because you already have friends, you know the campus, and you know what classes are like. But you still left a piece of your heart at home with your family and your hometown. It's OK to enjoy going back there a few times a semester.
5. Attendance is actually taken.
Not in all classes, but in some. Based on that tuition you're paying for, you are going to want to attend that class. Who knows, you might need those roll call points at the end of the semester. If nothing else, you will at least be prepared for upcoming exams.
6. You don't have as much free time as you want.
You think that by the time you get to college you will have time to sleep in, binge watch Netflix, and eat at Cookout every night. But between double majoring, required events for your major, involvement in school activities and events, time to eat, exercise, a few hours of sleep, and work, you don't have a lot of spare time. So manage your time wisely.
I promise, college is actually really great!
