As someone who’s finally begun running again, I *gasp* missed it. From cross-country to now almost 7 years later, it’s crazy to think about how much running has helped me. Even though you will often find me sulking or internally fighting myself to go run, here are 5 reasons everyone should run:
1. Confidence
Running is one of the few exercises without any pressure to look good. There are no mirrors, no models, no judgment. Just you, a time you hope to beat and a body that gets stronger every day.
2. Friends
I am a firm believer that everyone who runs is a freak. Or maybe being an outsider is just my reason for starting. But I’ve found that runners are often the nicest people I’ve ever met.
3. Nature
I love going outside. Once I drag my butt outside, I love spending time away from screens. I think it keeps me awake and makes me feel alive. In a busy world, days pass by in a blur but if you take a second and enjoy whatever weather is happening, the days stand out a little bit more.
4. Joy
I always forget this and am always constantly reminding myself of it, but running makes you happy. The exhaustion is often overwhelming. But for a second, one delusional second, the strength you feel makes you truly happy and proud of yourself. It's truly remarkable how the crap you put your body through is forgotten at that moment.
5. Food
Most importantly, running allows for you to eat more food.
And another excuse to eat whatever I want is really all I need to motivate some days.
