When asked about their parents professions, kids report a unique slew of answers spanning from doctor to dental hygienist, teacher to businessman. I am proud and always have been proud to say that my dad is self-employed contractor. Here are a few reasons why:
1. My dad is educated and chose a manual labor profession.
My dad has his masters' degree and worked a high-level management job, but he decided to change his career path to pursue a job working with his hands. He understands the importance of being educated, but there is also a great need for skilled laborers and tradesmen and women.
2. He puts his family first.
One of the main reasons my dad changed career paths was for me, and for this I am truly grateful. His old job required him to work long hours, far away, so for the sake of being a part of my life, he decided to make this change. He was able to coach my grade school's soccer team, drop me off on snows delays, pick me up on early dismissals, and so many other things like helping me to raise livestock projects for 4-H and becoming a leader in my club.
In addition, his old job wasn't the best for his health, so he could be around longer, he made this change. Thanks to him being a carpenter, he was able to be around a lot more, and I am able to have an incredibly close relationship with my dad that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to have.
3. He is honest and helps people in need.
My dad is an honest man, who works hard and has never slighted anyone by overcharging. Even if it takes longer, he always wants the job to be exactly right and never cuts corners. He takes pride in what he does by doing the job as skillfully as possible. He has a lot of elderly clients who have been cheated in the past or who are unable to do the work themselves. He is always "on-call" in case of an home emergency that needs fixing.
4. He does amazing, beautiful work.
It is amazing to see the great work he does on a daily basis. Because he mostly does remodels, he transforms spaces. It's honestly like art.
5. He is hardworking.
My dad is one of the most hardworking if not the most hardworking people I know. Despite the physical pain, he works through this pain.
6. He takes pride in his work and gives his best.
My dad puts tremendous effort, time, and literal sweat into his work. He shows me how to give to give my all even when the situation is physically and even mentally exhausting.
I am proud to have a dad who gives his all to his work. He works hard and with his hands to create some beautiful remodels. The United States is certainly in need of skilled laborers, and I am proud my dad is among the blue-collar crowd.
