I, like so many college students, am home for the holidays. This, of course, means food with flavor, movie nights with my family, free laundry services, and getting to spend some quality time with my dog, Poppy. While I was away at school this past semester I relied on a steady stream of Snapchat photos and videos, along with Facetime sessions to keep me from missing her too much. While it helps it isn't the same as seeing her in person.

I am not going to lie, I have gotten home from a long day in class and at work, and have almost cried because all I wanted to do was curl up with my dog. Before I continue you should know, my dog is an ass. Poppy spends most of her day sleeping or scratching her bowl demanding food. I don't know how she plans to burn off the calories. Poppy is deaf which allows her to be undisturbed by her own barking, something that happens anytime someone passes by the window.

Poppy snores like a dog three times her size, weighing in at 11 pounds soaking wet. Poppy wouldn't hurt a fly, but she is terrified of it and seems to think that it, with the help of her own shadow, has the ability to hurt her. However, she is also gentle, cuddly, loyal, consistently enthused and filled with joy. The dumb little thing is undeniably endearing and has a more colorful personality than many of the humans I know. I think all dog owners can attest to the unconditional love that seems to be formed within days of meeting your pet and continues for years afterward. There is a reason we call them man's best friend.

1. Dogs don't care how you look.

They love you warts and all.

2. Dogs are always there to listen...

And lick the tears away.

3. Dogs are always happy to see you.

Every homecoming is a reason for celebration.

4. Dogs are a great judge of character.

If your dog doesn't like someone, you shouldn't like that person either.

5. Dogs motivate you to stay active.

You can always find a way to avoid going for a run, but when it's their health that is on the line there is no excuse.

6. But, Dogs are more than happy to stay in and cuddle.

However, they will steal all the blanket.

7. Dogs don't care how much money you make.

As long as you have money for treats.

8. Dogs will always forgive you when you screw up.

Unlike cats.

9. Dogs make a great wingman.

Who can resist a cute puppy?

10. Dogs really can be your best friend.

The saying holds true.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
