Although Clemson football has not yet triumphed over the
University of South Carolina in my three (almost four) years as a student, the following are reasons I am feeling really optimistic about this year’s odds:
1. Deshaun will probably be back. Although I love Cole’s Hollister and Abercrombie style around campus, Deshaun is the real deal. He may have bones made of glass, but he’s in recovery and expected to return for the biggest game of the season.
2. Clemson was just named a top 20 public university. Not that there’s anything wrong with attending a university that’s not even in the top 50 (yikes), I just have more confidence in players who are engaging in regular academically stimulating activities.
3.

4. This year’s game is being held in Death Valley. Tiger fans are known for being die-hard fans who will stick with their team win or lose. This sets a great atmosphere for the Gamecocks to give into pressure and potentially suffer minor hearing loss as well.
5. Spurrier has a big mouth. In a recent tweet from Columbia newscaster Michael Haney, Spurrier mentions:
We all know what happened to Louisville when their coach compared the crowd noise at the Carrier Dome to that of Death Valley...
Will the Tigers finally take home the coveted Palmetto Bowl title this year?
Only time will tell...
