The decision to study abroad is commonly debated by college students. The pros and cons are weighed and thus a decision is made. However, not all college students are aware of all the pros that come from studying abroad, so here are some pros you may want to consider when making this life-changing decision.
You learn more about yourself.
Of course, you are aware of who you are before going abroad, but studying abroad allows for this awareness to become even more enhanced than before. Being placed in a foreign country, you learn about yourself in the sense of how you handle, and how to handle, certain situations you're placed into.
You learn about different cultures.
Learning about different cultures during your abroad experience allows you to immerse yourself into something new. The realization that there's more to Rome than the Lizzie McGuire portrayed will leave your mind blown.
THE FOOD.
What's better than tapas in Spain and pasta and pizza in Italy? NOTHING! The food alone should be convincing enough.
You experience abroad nightlife.
The nightlife abroad differs from the typical frat party or bar in college. In Spain it is common to go out at 1 a.m. and stay out till 5 a.m. It's definitely a change of scenery from the repetitive college nightlife scene.
You can visit other countries.
As if staying in the country you're abroad in isn't enough excitement already, you can also travel to other nearby countries. You're only a short plane ride from Italy when in Spain, and the flights are usually very cheap.
You meet new people.
While abroad you can meet and make friends with people you may not have become friends with while in college. You will forever have a unique friendship created by the abroad experience you shared.
So, there are some pros to add on to your list, but if those weren't convincing enough I'll just add on one more statement... GO ABROAD!
