While this is a pretty controversial topic, I stand on the side of the debate that is for the legalization. There's definitely a stigma on marijuana saying that it's a "gateway drug". In some instances, it can be, like if it's laced with another drug.
However, alone it will not make you want to do other drugs. If you're on the fence about the debate, here are eight reasons as to why legalizing marijuana is a good idea.
1. You can’t overdose.
Unlike alcohol, you can't die of weed poisoning. I mean, yes, you can die if it's laced with something, but you can't die from too much weed alone.
2. Fewer people die in car accidents while stoned than drunk.
In 2015, approximately 10,265 people died in alcohol-impaired crashes, according to MSN. But do you ever hear on the news that someone got into a fatal accident because of weed? If you have, it's very rare, compared to alcohol.
3. It would be safer if you could just buy it from a store because then you know it won’t be laced.
Yeah, it may be a little more expensive, but at least you would know you won't get addicted to another drug if you smoke it.
4. Crime rates would go down.
If weed is legalized, then it would be one less thing for police officers to have to worry about. They can focus on worse issues, like drinking and driving.
5. It's great for your mental health.
It reduces stress and anxiety.
6. Ganja is a natural remedy for chronic pain.
It reduces headaches and kills cramps.
7. It's safer than cigarettes.
How are cigarettes even legal? Mary Jane has been scientifically proven to fight cancer cells, unlike cigarettes, which CAUSE cancer.
8. Keeping it illegal isn’t stopping anyone.
We all know people already smoke weed. I mean, it’s not a secret. So, obviously, it’s not stopping anyone. Just legalize it already!
