In this world where everything and everyone are dependent on technology, we find it hard for ourselves to detox from it. We will make up a million and one reasons why we don't need to change our habits. But there are many reasons to try a digital detox, these are just three out of hundreds of reasons to take a step back from the digital world.

1. We've become too dependent on technology.

We live day to day on our phones, computers, and eyes glued to the television. By living like this we miss the beauty outside and around us. We are all guilty of exploring the outdoors and carrying around our cell phones and taking pictures of our surroundings to show others, but even that little Snap Chat photo or Instagram picture takes away from what nature is truly trying to show us.

Another little habit that we are all guilty of is watching tv or leaving the tv on at night. We're so dependent on having something happening in the background or needing to watch something to fall asleep it's almost humorous.

To find peace at night to fall asleep, we need a dramatic show or comedic movie to be playing when the show and the movie's main purpose is to entertain you and keep you awake. Not only does technology at nighttime mess up our sleep cycle but if you try sleeping without it, you'll find that it's harder to fall asleep.

2. There's more to life than the digital world.

When we become dependent on making sure every other living soul knows where we are and what we are doing, we lose a part of ourselves. We forget that there's more to nature than a screensaver. Mother nature gives us these amazing places and it's awesome that we all want to show others these amazing places, but if ALL you are doing is posting about these places you're missing the true beauty of it. We need to remember that it is okay if we don't share where we are and what we are doing to the digital world.

3. We will be better people after.

A simple detox from technology can be beneficial for more reasons than one. Some benefits from a digital detox are:

You will be more peaceful.

You will connect more with those around you.

You will learn to switch off the need for technology when you want, which allows you to find a healthy balance when using technology.

You will fix your sleep cycle.

You will feel free.

In the end, as people we should learn to be around each other and by ourselves without needing technology. Whether that be hiking with friends and not post a Snap Chat photo of it, or going to the beach and not uploading a video of the beautiful view. Being able to learn to balance the need to use technology will eventually make us better people and possibly unlock true happiness with mother nature.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
