Dear Gym, Oh How I Love You So

Thanks for always being open in my time of need.

Dear Gym, Oh How I Love You So
Sarah Watson

Working out has always been a big part of my life. I have a love of fitness that stems from a very young age, and will continue to be apart of my life for as long as it possibly can.

There is no feeling like finishing up a good workout at the gym. Whether it be cardio, heavy lifting, or running for as long as possible, the gym will never disappoint. "I really regretted that workout"...said NO ONE ever.

Over the years, working out has really created a space for me to just lose myself. I get to go to the gym and wash away my day. All the frustration is taken out on heavy weights or a punching bag. Whenever I walk out the doors of the gym, I take the biggest breath of fresh air because my day has now been rejuvenated.

Now don't get me wrong, it's not always easy to get myself there. The days inevitably come when I feel too tired or too busy to get myself in for a workout. It always seem like the easier option to stay home and just be lazy for an afternoon. News flash...just because it's easy doesn't mean it's better.

Everyone goes through hard times of wanting to just be lazy, or just hit a plateau in their workouts. That doesn't mean it is time to quit, that just means it is time to change it up! Never be afraid to try new things at the gym.

Working out is not supposed to be miserable. You just have to find what aspects of fitness motivate you to want to be better. Obviously everyone wants to be healthy and look good, but that isn't always the best way to keep yourself going back for more workouts.

I personally go to the gym for relief. Like I said earlier, I love the feeling of losing myself in a great workout. As a college student, taking a summer class and working two jobs, I need ways to destress. Coming home everyday to a laptop and three hours of homework is not something I look forward to everyday. Most days, Netflix seems A LOT more tempting than what I need to be doing.

The gym helps to counteract my feelings of laziness and the don't wants. Rather than giving in to the desires of my favorite shows, I drag my booty to the gym to get my blood flowing again and find some motivation to get my homework done. It is far more productive than hours of binge watching, and it gives me a sense of pride to know that I have been and will continue to be productive in my day.

More than anything, working out keeps me sane. Sports started my love for fitness and it is now carried into my adult life. I wouldn't change it for anything. I encourage you to find something fitness related that you love, start some new habits and make some new challenges for yourself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
