These days, it’s so easy to get caught up in all the negative things around us, but we don’t always have to be worrying. It’s so refreshing to take a break and focus on everything good—there’s always something to be happy about. Making a list of those things can help you de-stress and become a more positive person. Here are 25 reasons to be happy:

1. You have a home with a warm bed.

2. And access to healthy food and clean water.

3. Baby animals are so darn cute.

4. You can own a little plant and keep it in your room.

5. Sunrise and sunset happen every day.


6. You are alive.

7. Thanks to planes, trains, and automobiles, you can go anywhere.

8. There are billions of stars in the sky to look at.

9. Music is so easily accessible.

10. Puppies!


11. You can be anything you want.

12. There are flowers everywhere.

13. Chocolate.

14. Somewhere, right now, someone is having the best day of their life.

15. Hugs are free.

16. There's only one you.

17. Someone is always proud of you.

18. The seasons change, and each one is beautiful and unique.

19. You’ve gotten through your worst times.

20. You can take pictures to preserve memories.

21. Being kind is easy and rewarding.

22. Fridays come every single week.

23. Rain is so soothing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
