I love sports; football, hockey, baseball, and the occasional basketball game. I don't have brothers, but I've grown up watching my cousins play sports and watching sports on TV. The first sport, other than ones I played that I really understood, was baseball.
So there is definitely a special place in my heart for it. Honestly, there isn't much I get excited about the way I get excited for baseball season to start. With opening days happening this week, it's got me thinking of all the things that make me so excited for the season to kick off.
1. Opening Day promotions
Nothing says baseball season opening day like all the free stuff. Who doesn’t love a free shirt or hat to kick off one of the best sports seasons of the year? I mean, baseball is America’s favorite pastime.
2. Fan atmosphere
I think this applies to every sport, but fan atmosphere is what makes the season that much more exciting. Being surrounded by fans cheering, booing and getting hype together is just the icing on the cake. Fellow fans make the season and the games that much better.
3. Warmer weather
After months of cold weather and snow, baseball season is the light at the end of the tunnel. You know it’s about to get warmer, and summer is literally so close you can taste it. Nothing beats spring weather and an MLB game. Who's with me?
4. Tailgates
Warmer weather really helps with this one. Tailgates are so much better in the spring. There’s nothing like being in a parking lot surrounded by fellow fans, drinking beer, playing games, and listening to music. It just starts the day/night on the right foot and makes you that much more hype for the game.
5. Ballpark food
Cheesesteaks, hot dogs, BBQ, crab fries, ice cream, and the list goes on. Ballpark food is always so good, regardless of the price tag. It tastes so much better in the ballpark than it does literally anywhere else.
6. Dollar Dog Night
Literally, the one night where you can get something without completely breaking the bank. Hot dogs and baseball go together like bread and butter. I can’t honestly think of a better combo. A $5 hot dog going for a low price of $1? I’m in.
7. Overpriced beer
Big $12 beers are an iconic thing about any sports season, but something about beer and baseball makes a lot of sense. You get to literally be outside in the best weather, watching your team, drinking your beer. You’ll always bite the bullet and pay the $12, no matter what you say prior to getting there.
I'm counting down the seconds until I'm at the ballpark, cheering on my team, eating a dollar dog, and drinking my $12 beer. I've been waiting a long time for this, and I couldn't be more excited!
