Aaahhhh Christmas time. The time of year filled with loads of candy canes, carolers and festive sweaters.
Who doesn't love Christmas time?
"It's the most wonderful time of the year..." But for some people, it's not.
Don't get me wrong, Christmas is very exciting. I love going around and shopping for all of my friends and family. Walking into stores and hearing Mariah Carey's famous "All I Want For Christmas Is You" song and starting to belt it out. Making gingerbread houses is super fun and driving around to see Christmas lights is the major thing to do around December.
Christmas is a lovely holiday, you spend time with the people you love and cherish.
Unfortunately, I can't enjoy the fun in it.
Christmas as a child was the best thing ever. You leave out cookies for Santa and go to sleep to wake up to a ton of Christmas presents under the tree.
Then, on Christmas Day, you play with all of your gadgets and toys. But I feel that as the years go on and you get older, it becomes less thrilling.
Christmas more than any other Christmas before feels like it's just a normal month this year.
My house used to be covered in Christmas decorations, almost as if Santa threw up and left his bows and sparkle everywhere. The outside used to have a big blow up snow globe and lights hanging from every branch.
But, it's not like that anymore.
We would wake up to tons of gifts under the tree and our stockings filled to the brim with goodies. Now it's just a couple, and done.
It's almost halfway through December, and the only thing we have up is the tree.
No carousel.
No Santas around the house.
No reindeer pillow.
Just a tree.
The outside is barren and no light is to be shed. Gifts aren't as plentiful as they used to be. No big dinner is being made.
It's just a normal day.
Christmas Day was never really my favorite. It's the day where all of the festivities are over and you don't really do much.
As a teenager getting clothes for Christmas, there isn't really much to mess around with on Christmas Day. You just try on the clothes and that's it. It's always been quite depressing to me.
To be honest, Christmas went downhill the day my father passed away.
After that, Christmas has never been the same. We used to have a tradition of watching "Elf" on Christmas Eve. My dad was not a very light person, he was always stern and straight faced. Elf was the only movie that you would ever see my father laugh at until he cried, and I will never forget that.
We haven't watched it on Christmas Eve since he passed away. Christmas Day just seems to be emptier than usual.
Although I may dislike lots of things about Christmas, there is one thing I love about it, and that's giving.
Christmas makes lots of people greedy and selfish. But it can also make you very giving.
I've always been the girl that appreciated anything. You could give me a piece of gum, and I would act like you just bought me a car.
I love giving gifts and picking them out. It's my favorite thing about the Christmas season. I always get excited when there's a Secret Santa, and I get the perfect person--knowing exactly what to get them!
Wrapping it is also very fun to me. I don't care if I get a gift in return, I just like the smile on the person's face when they open my gift.
I know that this probably wasn't what anyone was expecting when reading an article about Christmas. It's normally all fun and exciting, but not for everyone.
Don't forget during this Christmas season that not everyone loves the holidays, and it may be a harsh topic for some people.
This season, try to give more and be cautious towards people's feelings. You never know what could happen when you are courteous towards someone's needs.
