Really, What Can You Do About The Amazon Rain Forest?

It is truly a tragedy that one of the largest rain forests were on fire and did not get the media attention it deserves. What can people do to be more aware about their world?

Recently, there has been tragic news about the Amazon rain forest burning for the past three weeks without any media coverage. Compared to the other tragedy this year of the burning of the Notre Dame, the media snapped it's fingers and people were on the case moments after the fire was ignited on the historical monument.

Why is this the case? Don't people care enough already? Or do they not? Quite frankly, people care about their own lives and the world that revolves around them. Why should they care about the Earth's lungs that is thousands of miles away from them? It's not like they are going to drop a plane ticket they can't probably afford and fly out to see one of the last of the magnificent rain forests. Do these people even know where the Amazon is? I recommend studying a map for starters.

I'm being cynical but realistic. In the realm of social media, people are going to focus on what they are more interested in and what gets their day going. Politics, entertainment, drama, or just being occupied with cute cat videos serve as the distraction to keep someone busy in their routine lives. Maybe we really do live in a generation with no passion or empathy for the nature that supports our only world.

Surely, someone will some along and care about these tragedies because they are more equipped and passionate. The person living their own routine life will not feel obligated to do anything all because someone is caring about this matter for them and they don't need to expend the energy. Well, in these last three weeks, it's quite a sad turnout.

On that note, I want to stress that is has not been three weeks that the Amazon rain forest has been ignored, it has been ignored for the past sixty years. That is what has led up to this point, this terrible fire. Forget how things happened and went wrong this past year, think about the generational consequences and how you can personally can make a difference.

But hey, look at me speaking up on my high horse, I am guilty of living my own life and only hearing about this tragedy three weeks later like everyone else. It only makes me more aware of how I could make a difference as an individual. Conserving, recycling, reusing, and being responsible can go a long way. Everyone has a place in the world and there is always a purpose that can be fulfilled. Even if it is just the smallest thing.

Being in tune with other parts of the world is so easy today, you are just a keyboard or touchscreen away. The passion for conserving the world should be approached differently and not taken with a grain of salt. Hopefully, and soon, there will be more awareness for the world's health.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
