This past school year has definitely been one for the books. I decided to live in my sorority house for the first time, and man was it an experience. I’m someone who tends to like their alone time, and the prospect of having fifty other roommates was quite daunting at first. However, it was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made and I will miss it more than I ever expected to.
You’re never alone
I mean, you can always retreat to your bedroom to hide for a little bit, but otherwise, there's almost always someone around who you can talk to. It makes meals far more interesting than they ever were in the dorms and studying one of the most – or least — productive activities in your day.
Always having someone around really enforces the feeling of “home.” There’s always someone to lend you that really cute top they wore last weekend or save you by letting you in on late nights when you forget your key. There’s not much privacy, however, it pushes you to get to know your sisters better and strengthen or make new friendships.
There’s always something to do
Boredom is a fast and fleeting moment when living in a sorority house. There's always someone doing something or going somewhere. You really have to go out of your way to actually not do anything. I've never been busier, and I couldn't have been happier.
It doesn’t just apply to going out, either. Chill nights in are all the more interesting because you have an entire house to share them with if you want to. From movie marathons to "Bachelor" watch parties and game nights, they’re far from boring and have been some of the best times I’ve had there.
It’s just plain convenient
Between chapter meetings and philanthropy events, when living in the house all you have to do is roll out of bed and walk downstairs. Last year I had to trek all the way across campus for every single event, which eventually got pretty old. It’s never been easier to stay involved, as living in has given me the ability to attend almost anything that goes down.
Overall, living in the house was a unique and unforgettable experience that I am so grateful for. It allowed me to expand my boundaries and become a more dedicated member of my sorority. It was truly nothing like living anywhere else, and if it is an option for you, I completely and wholeheartedly recommend it.
