My twenty-first birthday is almost here! I am proud of who I’ve become so far and I often forget that even though I am still super young, I am growing up very quickly. I’ve learned a lot and I think it’s essential for everyone to take time to appreciate some small realizations that occur within your first twenty-one years of living.

1. The Jonas brothers were NOT a phase

They will always be hot and you will always have a special place in your heart for them, regardless of how old you get.

2. Your mom is what makes your world go around

She is your best friend and you simply couldn’t do life without her.

3. You don't need a lot of friends

You really don’t. Your small group of 6 or 7 is PLENTY. Quality > Quantity.

4. There's nothing wrong with missing someone who doesn't miss you

Although you shouldn’t spend all of your energy wanting them or wishing them to be back in your life, I think there’s nothing wrong with missing the old times, or missing who they used to be.

5. Time doesn't heal all wounds

There are scars and battle wounds that will always hurt regardless of how much time has passed. Being an adult is trying to move past them, no matter how much pain was caused.

6. Your old Facebook photos will ALWAYS be cringe-worthy

Probably never going to look back at those 7th-grade waterpark photos and “reminisce”. So let’s just pretend those pictures don’t exist.

7. Everything will be okay

Even when you're 100% convinced that it won't be.

8. Half of your closet is black clothes

Black is definitely the most flattering color for anybody and always goes with every accessory!

9. Not everyone is going to like you

And hey, you’re not going to like everyone either. You don’t need to impress anyone, and at this point in your life, you’ve learned to let it go.

10. Being the bigger person is hard but it's worth it

You’ll feel better about the situation knowing you did whatever you could to make it better in any way.

11. You should never apologize for the way you feel

12. Life doesn't owe you anything

And on the other hand, no one owes you anything. You better work, bitch.

13. Naps are always worth it

No, you're not lazy. You're tired. So take the damn nap.

14. Failure is bound to happen

Success is built on failing. Embrace it and learn from it, don’t fear it.

15. Everything happens for a reason

It's as cliche as it is true.

16. Take a personal day every now and then

You deserve to treat yourself, and your mental health is SO important.

17. YOU CAN FINALLY LEGALLY DRINK

No more getting kicked out of places because you’re underage, or using a fake ID. You’re legal now! Get out there and have some fun!

Here's to being 21!!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
