When I started working at a craft store, I realized quickly that it was not all it was hyped up to be. I thought customer service would be my thing, and for the most part, it is. And I absolutely love doing arts and crafts. But at the same time, customer service is the bane of my existence. I really do like my job, but there are some days where I get those certain customers where I wish they would just not shop at my store anymore. Thank God for my friends I can vent to at work because otherwise I would spontaneously combust and there'd be a need for "clean up at the customer service desk." The following tries to describe my experience in retail thus far (only five months, I might add).
1. When you decide that it's time you finally get a job
2. When you walk in on your first day and your managers are so excited to see the new hire and start dumping work on them
3. When no one's around, you're bored, and you see your co-worker from across the store
4. When you try to get someone to sign up for a store membership
5. When you explain the store policy to the customer, and the customer asks for the manager who ends up repeating what you just said
6. When the customer threatens to go to the competitor store and you have to pretend to care
7. When the store is so full of merchandise that one wrong move would make a whole shelf collapse
8. When you don't feel well, but it's not enough to call out, so your manager asks if you're OK
9. When you get 15 minutes to eat something
10. When you lock the keys to the register in the register (calling myself out here)
11. When you meet all the goals you needed to achieve for the day
12. Getting to leave work after a long shift
At the end of the day, working in retail gives me so much experience that is beneficial to me for the future. Doing well at my job makes me happy. I love the feeling when I do something well and I get that thumbs up from my manager
