It Might Seem Crazy To You, But I Love Living In My Sorority House

It is one of the best things to happen to you.

It Might Seem Crazy To You, But I Love Living In My Sorority House
Faith Burling

In my freshman year, I joined a sorority. I was an out of state student who barely knew anyone when moving here. I went through formal recruitment, and while it was one of the most hectic weeks of my life, it was also one of the best and gave me the gift of my sorority sisters.

My sophomore year, this year, I get to live in the sorority's house. While this can seem really stressful to almost anyone since I am living with 80+ other girls, it is also one of the greatest things of my college experience.

For starters, we have a cook who cooks for us for literally all but seven times of the week. This means that I am able to just go into the kitchen at mealtime, quickly grab my food, and get back to whatever I was doing before. This is especially great when I have a big project due, and I don't really have time to drive somewhere and get food.

Next, you get so close with people in the house. The great thing about living in a sorority house is that you can easily find anyone to do anything with you. This quickly helps you to learn more than a select few people in the house. Last year, a majority of my friends either had classes with me or lived in the same building as me. Sometimes it was who we all rode with when we had chapter. Living in the house itself, you get to meet people you haven't before, which is a wonderful opportunity.

Like everything, there are a few things I didn't expect when thinking about living in my sorority. One is quiet hours not always being quiet. There are days that the house is completely silent and it's even quieter at night. However, there are also nights that I swear the people above me have an elephant in their room. Luckily for everyone in the house, we have a GroupMe that we can quickly message when trying to sleep.

Laundry is also sometimes impossible (mainly on the weekends). With 80+ girls and a select number of washers and dryers, it is bound to be difficult to find a time to clean your clothes. My suggestion is to find a time when hardly anyone is at the house and wash them then. It makes for an easier and less stressful time.

While there are some hardships when living with so many girls, I am incredibly happy that I'm able to experience this. I've met people I probably wouldn't have otherwise and always have someone to do something with. If you're lucky enough to get the opportunity to live in a sorority house, I highly suggest you do it. It's been one of my favorite opportunities this year.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
