Living With Anxiety Is Like Having No Control

A constant state of being uncomfortable in your own skin, worrying, overthinking, and isolation.

Anxiety has always been a substantial part of my life. As a child and into adulthood, I have always been someone who is constantly worrying, over thinking, and stressing about everything. It could be over the smallest things but my mind takes over and anxiety is a result. My family does have a history of anxiety and anxiety related issues, so it's not surprising that I would have anxiety myself.

Throughout life, I was not a "social butterfly." The act of putting myself out there to others for fear of what they would think about me was terrifying. I wouldn't take part in discussions because I felt that what I had to say wasn't valid (I now know that this way of thinking was completely wrong and whatever I have to contribute is valid). Also, I feared making friends because I felt that I was too awkward and no one would like me (especially coming to college).

Constantly worrying, over thinking, and stressing about things can take a toll on someone's mental health. Being in anxiety-causing situations would cause my heart rate to increase, sweating, and would make me sick. Over the years, I've slowly learned to take everything one step at a time. I know that it's okay to have anxiety about things, but what's not okay is that I would let it run my life. There were certain events that I wouldn't go to because of my anxiety of being around others and constantly worrying about what to say to them.

Now that I am a college student who is finished with their first semester, I have grown a lot. Throughout this semester, I put myself out there in many aspects of my life and I am glad that I made the decision to stop over thinking everything so much. I still have anxiety and I know that it will never go away but what I can do is choose to live my life and not let my anxiety take over.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
