What No One Tells You About College When You're Still A Naive High School Kiddie

College... also known as the best four years of your life, as said by every person who wishes they were still back in college. I, for one, was not expecting the first few weeks of college to be anything like they are in a movie but they are definitely memories to remember.

First Day of High School

For twelve consecutive years, the first day was always a big deal. Getting dressed up with some of the stuff you got from back to school shopping, new school supplies, new teacher, the classic picture on the first day with the sign of the grade you were in. Sometimes being in a new school. Scary, but exciting.

First Day of College

Pretty much the next four grades after twelfth. The whole new deal with new supplies, but more often new laptops and upgraded tech. New professors, sometimes the first time you ever had a professor and finally taking classes that you actually signed up for. Sending home the classic picture on the first day for your parents to ooh and aww over. Sometimes being in a new school. Scary, but exciting. And probably the best part of being in college is being in a new school and even possibly a new state.

Summer for High School

Summer was great: You went to camp, hung out with your friends, possibly got your first job. The first time you see your best friend is the greatest, it has been forever since they left for camp and all you want to do is talk about how much you missed them.

Summer for College

Work, travel abroad, internships, there is a lot to catch up about. It is the first time in months you have seen your friend who lives all the way on the other coast. However, just like high school, you missed them and just pick up where you left off.

Homework for High School

The same old boring equations. y=mx=b is embedded in your mind, and you have two chapters of "The Great Gatsby" due in American lit. Homework is a priority because the end goal is getting into that university you want.

Homework for College

THERE IS LITERALLY SO MUCH TO DO IN SO LITTLE TIME! EVERYTHING IS A PRIORITY BECAUSE THE END GOAL IS GETTING INTO THAT GRAD SCHOOL YOU WANT OR GETTING THAT JOB YOU WANT!

Even though a new school year brings a lot of firsts, some are ones you relive again and again.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
