Winter Break: Expectations Vs. Reality

Catching up on sleep is never a bad thing...right?

1. I'm going to be more active this break and keep myself moving.

*Comes home, sleeps 48 hours straight, eats, then heads to bed for a nap*

2. I'm going to get ahead on my studies and order my books early to start reading what I'll be getting into next semester.

Well, it's the thought that counts. Every year I tell myself this and I'm not quite sure who I think I'm fooling. Only thing I'm reading is my text messages, Cosmopolitan and the title of the next show I'm watching on Netflix.

3. I'm going to eat clean so I can go back to school looking right and looking tight.

Hmm, well there was lettuce on my burger and spinach in my pasta..that counts for something right? Also, let's incorporate that one circuit workout I did so I think I deserve this bottle of wine too.

4. I'm going to get myself organized for the new year.

Well, let's just say it's been two days and I've broken most of my new year's resolutions. Along with my life..my room, my hair and my priorities are a mess. I mean hey, on the bright side, we've still got 363 days to turn this sh*t around!!

5. I'm going to reconnect with old friends I haven't seen in awhile.

But then you remember they're probably out of your life now for good reasons. Sounds petty, but if you truly don't care what's going on in their lives anymore then move on. Friendships are a special thing and true ones will remain by your side.

6. I'm going to spend more time out of the house, even if that means sitting in a coffee shop to read.

I don't know how I make so many plans for myself while at school, maybe it's all the coffee talking and the feeling of being caged in for finals...but I wish I had that motivation when I actually arrive home. Sadly, never made it to a coffee shop BUT accomplishments include finishing watching Westworld, almost through 4 seasons of Shameless and managing to shift from bed to the couch.

7. I'm going to start getting rid of everything I don't use.

The minute I look at the amount of stuff in my room, it's too overwhelming and I need to walk away. It'll get taken care of one day...

8. I'm going to appreciate being with my family more because we haven't seen each other in awhile.

The minute you walk through the door, someone is nagging you about doing something. Welcome home, now let's play twenty-one questions and talk about grades! Suddenly, you miss the freedom of being away at school and being able to do what you want, when you want. Love you fam, but my friends let me sleep all day without questions.

9. I'll start planning my epic spring break.

Haven't booked one thing yet, but being that this is my last spring break as a college student you knooow it's going to be off the chain. Let's pray is won't be anything like the trash movie and hopefully no Riff-Raff looking man has to bail my girls and I out of jail.

10. I'll update my resume and LinkedIn.

Did any of this happen? ^^ Nicki doesn't lie.

11. I'll try a new restaurant in my town.

That would require getting out of bed and putting pants on...so I'll just go scrap up something in my fridge. Okay cool, we've got cheese and Wheat Thins so we're in business.

12. I'll start looking for a job or internship.

I really want to say I have my life together and a job lined up for when I graduate; however, we all know where this is going. If I had it my way, I'd be jumping on a plane the day after graduation to teach English in a foreign country for a year or go backpacking throughout Europe. As a college student, obviously, I'm balling on a budget and need to make funds first before those dreams can happen. But I promise Mom and Dad, I'll find a job.

Welcome to 2017! Sorry, not all your winter break expectations came true, but catching up on sleep is never a bad thing. Enjoy the relaxation while you can, before you dive into another hectic semester. May your break be blessed with good Netflix series and comfy beds.

Xoxo,

Cait

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
