There is no better feeling than waltzing right into the new fall semester after your first/second/third year of college.
First off, you know exactly what you're getting yourself into. There is absolutely no confusion about what to expect because you've done it all before and you survived it all!
Secondly, you have an entire support system of friends, professors, and people in the community you've become close with and could not imagine continuing this experience without by your side. You are no longer the lone wolf!
Most importantly, this familiarity allows you to have the upper-hand in self-improvement --something most of us strive to accomplish each year yet fail terribly (thanks, procrastination).
The specifics of that improvement varies from person-to-person, however, I have compiled a few goals that I believe we could all accomplish with little-to-no effort this year!
1. Getting out of bed
You've officially accomplished the first task of the day! Go you!
2. Remembering to eat breakfast
You would think I would remember to do my favorite activity: eat. However, I cannot count the number of times I have walked right out of the door without eating the most important meal of the day. When I actually eat I feel like someone should give me a sticker!
3. Going to class
Making to class is half the battle, the other half is writing every word on the power point slide before the professor changes it.
4. Going to the gym
Even if it's only for half an hour, any trip to the gym is a successful one.
5. Only forgetting your keys once this week
The average is usually three times, but I'll take anything less. I suppose my keys are less of a priority than getting to my destination on time!
6. Smiling
Sometimes managing to put on a smile when life inconveniences you in the slightest way takes all of your energy, but when you finally pull it off you feel like a master of disguise.
7. Reading the assigned readings
This one speaks for itself.
8. Taking a trip to the library
Refer to #4 but replace "gym" with "library."
9. Not letting your 15 minute nap turn into 3 hours
Avoiding that shock of fear when you wake up at 9pm when you meant to wake up at 6:15pm and having no clue what century you're in is worthy of a trophy.
10. Submitting your assignment before it is due
Due at midnight? No problem. Submitted at 11:59.
11. Using your credit card and it doesn't get declined
A true reward within itself.
12. Remembering where your class is
With no shame, I still forget how to navigate myself around campus, but that moment when you finally remember how to get to your class is golden.
13. Meal Prepping
Cooking one meal is time consuming as it is. Cooking more than one? Major accomplishment. Good thing you won't have to cook for the rest of the week though.
14. Getting a good grade on an assignment
100% on the syllabus quiz? Amazing. Hey, 10 points is still 10 points in the grade book and a perfect score is a great start to the semester!
15. Enjoying being back at college
Let's be real. Classes are already more stressful than they need to be. Having your eyes set on that 4.0 GPA, losing 30 lbs, or getting that super competitive intern position is incredible--I highly encourage big goals. Nevertheless, don't forget to celebrate the little victories in your day-to-day life. Remember to give yourself credit for the baby steps, especially when days get rough.
