Ready to Put Down Your Phone Yet?

Ready to Put Down Your Phone Yet?

Look around. People everywhere seem to be permanently glued to their phones.

We sit next to our friends texting and Snapchatting our other friends. If we don't post what we’re doing on Instagram and Twitter, it didn't really happen, did it? Even though we’re lacking in our face-to-face conversation skills due to our dependency on our phones, we know more about people than we ever have before. Why? We constantly stalk people whether they are our best friends or our ex-boyfriends/girlfriends.

How would we survive without our iPhones and our Androids? What would we do with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc.? Just think about what your life would be like without it.

Free time.  Think of all of the free time you would have to actually get caught up on everything you need to do if you weren't constantly waiting on updates.

Real conversations. If your phone didn’t beep every few seconds, you might could actually get out a full sentence without loosing track of your thoughts. You could have conversations with people without being interrupted or worrying they’re texting about how annoying you are talking their ears off. Your only conversations with some of your friends wouldn't just be in reply to their tweets or comments on their statuses.

Better grades. If you take time to study or pay attention in class instead of refreshing social media, your grades will rise. What your littles are doing at the moment is not as important as you potentially failing college.

More sleep. Instead of laying down at night and staring at your phone's screen for hours on end, you could actually go to sleep. I know, that sounds crazy! I mean why would you not want to oversleep every morning and yawn all day?

Less stress and more fun. We think just because we see “Joe” doing something really cool on Instagram, we have to do something even cooler and post it. If we don’t, he will think we’re lame, right? Or others won’t think we’re any fun. So you’re either trying too hard to fake a “cool” moment, or you’re pausing form your really cool moment to post a picture. Either way, just stop and go have fun.

With this being said, I know that it's not realistic to just forget having a phone in today's world, but it is possible to put it down a few times a day. Pick a few times a day to go through all of your accounts. Then, you won't have the need to constantly check when nothing new has even happened. If nothing else, you can put it down when you're busy.

Put your phone down and hang out with your friends; you can put your fun pictures on social media the next morning. Put your phone down to study. Put your phone down when you lay down at night. It's not that hard, and you won't regret it!
