On January 14th, we lost the great actor, Alan Rickman, better known as Professor Snape. If you’re like me, you mourned the loss by rereading your well-read Harry Potter books and finding whatever movies you could on the internet. As I read the books for what seemed like the 100th time, the spines seemed to be cracking even more than they already were, begging me to be put down as if they already knew I could recite the books nearly verbatim.
Most of my values and morals I based upon this series and there are so many people out there who feel the same way about this series (it’s rumored that JKR makes $8 a second from the Harry Potter series). With the recent passing of Professor Snape, I feel it’s an appropriate time to look back on the reasons why you should read (or reread) this amazing series.
1. It teaches you that love will get you through everything
Love will never die with you. Maybe it's the love you feel from your parents or the love you feel for your significant other, love can bring you through everything.
2. Good friends are the best things you could ever have
What's better than having ride-or-dies that you know will drop everything to be by your side when a stuck up, entitled rich kid thinks it's cool to bully you for no reason? One of them might even punch him!!
3. See the good in people
Not everyone is bad. Though there may be bad aspects of people but don't let media or popular belief cloud your judgement of people. Don't judge a book by its cover.
4. You are capable of more than what you believe and what people tell you
There will always be someone behind you doubting you in everything you do. When you have one loyal person there to help you along the way, you can conquer the world, or the Triwizard Cup.
5. Not everyone's methods are traditional, but they're always going to be looking out for you
Tough love isn't always the best approach but it works. Don't deny people the chance to help you because you're afraid to listen to the hard things.
6. After all this time?
Always.
We will always mourn the loss of Alan Rickman and the aura of mystery and love he brought to the Harry Potter series. RIP Professor Snape. May you have fun with Dumbledore where every wizard never dies.
