Rating Every Single One Of Harry Styles’ Songs Based On How Much I Skip Them On Spotify
Harry Styles via Instagram

Harry Edward Styles: singer, songwriter, my future husband. If you know me, then you know that I absolutely love Harry Styles. Sure, he has his looks going for him, but I love him for the person that he is and the art that he creates. He is truly inspiring and the perfect role model, and not to mention, a lyrical genius. Every single one of his songs was crafted with stylistic purpose, while remaining open for interpretation. Both of his albums, Harry Styles and Fine Line, capture different points of his life and are full of perfection. There is no specific label for his albums; each and every one of his records are unique. Though I appreciate every single one of his songs, there are some that I do not listen to as much as I do his other works, hence this article.

22. "Meet Me in the Hallway"

Starting at number 22 is "Meet Me in the Hallway" from his self-titled album Harry Styles. Whenever this song comes onto my queue, I skip it. Don't get me wrong; this song is a lyrical masterpiece. He expresses his vulnerability by singing about losing someone he loved, hoping they will take him back whenever they are ready. However, I rated it as last because it invokes a brokenhearted, heavy-chested feeling inside of me, and I would prefer not to feel like that. Though, if it is a rainy day and I am feeling particularly sad that day, it will remain in my Spotify queue.

21. "Watermelon Sugar"

I hope this does not spark any controversy, but I have to say that "Watermelon Sugar" is not one of my favorite songs by Harry Styles. I firmly believe it is because it is overplayed on the radio, TikTok, and other platforms. When the song was first released, I fell in love with it. It had a recognizable and loveable melody to it. However, once the radio started overplaying the song and it was all over my For You Page on TikTok, I quickly fell out of love with it. Therefore, whenever this song comes on my queue, I skip it. It is still an amazing song; however, I tend to skip it because I do not enjoy listening to it anymore.

20. "Adore You"

For very similar reasons as "Watermelon Sugar," I put "Adore You" towards the bottom of the list because I also believe that it is overplayed on the radio and other media platforms. I rated it higher than "Watermelon Sugar" because I can tolerate this song more than I can "Watermelon Sugar." I do not hear this song on the radio as much as I do with the previous song on this list, but it is still streamed quite often. Both songs dominate the charts, which is incredible, and I am so happy that his songs are getting the recognition they deserve. However, whenever this song comes on my Spotify, I do not usually let it play and skip to a different song.

19. "Falling"

Released from his Fine Line album and coming in at number 19 is "Falling." This song really exhibits Harry's fear of becoming someone he does not recognize. He questions the person he sees himself as and believes that he is experiencing a fall in his character post-breakup. This song captures the heartbreak that Harry, himself, and so many others have gone through. Not only has he lost someone he loves, but he also believes that he is losing himself, adding substantial weight to the heartbreak of a break-up. I rated "Falling" as number 19 because it is not my top song choice to listen to. The song does not closely resonate with me, hence why I skip it often.

18. "To Be So Lonely"

At number 18 is "To Be So Lonely," a song in which Harry reflects on the unexpected endings of a recent relationship. He recognizes that the other party in the relationship has their reasons for breaking things off with him, but he is still attempting to accept those reasons, and therefore blames the breakup on the other person. He knows that taking them back would be easier for him than to be lonely. The reason I rated "To Be So Lonely" as number 18 is due to sound of the instrumentals in the song. I do not typically listen to music that utilizes those sounds as the main melody, but it is unique, so I give Harry credit for expressing himself with an alternative sound. I do listen to this song on the occasion, but most days I find myself skipping to the next song on queue.

17. "From the Dining Table"

"From the Dining Table" screams heartbreak. If you are experiencing a breakup and need a song to relate to your situation, this is the song to listen to. If you would rather not feel like somebody just tore your heart into pieces, I would recommend that you listen to Harry's other equally amazing songs. This song really depicts Harry's heartache after this hurtful breakup. He writes about missing someone you loved but not having that feeling reciprocated. The song resembles his current state of not being able to get over someone. I tend to skip this song on Spotify often because it is very melancholic, which is not my favorite genre to listen to on the daily basis.

16. "Cherry"

Ah, good ole "Cherry." If you are a fan of Harry Styles, then you know the inspiration behind this song. "Cherry" was written about Harry's ex-girlfriend, Camille Rowe, a fashion model. The lyrics are straightforward; he sings about missing her and their relationship. Honestly, this is not my favorite song, but I still find it quite catchy.

15. "Lights Up"

"Lights Up" was the first single to be released off of Harry's second album. This piece is about accepting yourself for the person you are and being unapologetic for it. It welcomes the journey to self-discovery, realization, and the need for change. I rated this as number 15 for similar reasons as "Watermelon Sugar" and "Adore You": the first few weeks of its release, the song was overplayed. However, I rated it higher than the other two songs mentioned because I enjoy these lyrics more and appreciate its sound more than I do "Watermelon Sugar" and "Adore You."

14. "Sunflower Vol. 6"

For the number 14 spot is "Sunflower Vol. 6" from his second album, Fine Line. This song is a summer anthem. The tune has happy-go-lucky vibes to it, making it a great song to jam out to on any occasion. The lyrics give off the impression that Harry is reminiscing on the blossoming of a new relationship, which suit the melody extremely well. This song is not often skipped on my Spotify. It radiates good energy and is guaranteed to make any bad day better.

13. "Sign of the Times"

"Sign of the Times" was the first single Harry released as a solo artist back in 2017. This piece tells the story of a mother experiencing complications during childbirth and being told she will not make it. Harry writes this song from the perspective of the mother telling her child that everything will be alright. The rock tune pairs perfectly with the heavyhearted lyrics and never fails to make me cry. The only time I would skip this song would be if I did not want to cry.

12. "Kiwi"

Released from his first solo album, "Kiwi" is one of Harry's songs that nobody is sure how to dissect. Some fans argue that this song has a hidden meaning, and that there is a connection between the lyrics and the song title, while others insist that this song is a joke and is just the result of Harry messing around in the studio. Regardless of the debates, we can all agree that "Kiwi" is a song we can all jam out to.

11. "Two Ghosts"

In my opinion, "Two Ghosts" is one of Harry's most underrated songs. The song depicts two ex-lovers reflecting on their past relationship, in which they were completely different people than they are now. He writes about how both parties have drastically changed since the start of their relationship, losing the spark and the love that were once there. This is a timeless piece with a pleasant guitar feature and is guaranteed to make you press replay.

10. "Only Angel"

"Only Angel" is the perfect song to hype you up. This upbeat, old-school rock piece will be sure to get you out of your funk. This song perfectly represents Harry's talent at songwriting. The build-up from the soft piano to the hard rock guitar in the beginning is the defining piece of this song for me. Not to mention, the lyrics in combination with the rock tune are sure to make you feel like you are strutting down the Victoria's Secret Angel runway with the world's biggest supermodels. "Only Angel" is an absolute masterpiece, and it does not get enough credit.

9. "Treat People with Kindness"

Every Harry Styles stan knows that Harry preaches the phrase "Treat People with Kindness," and he encourages his fans to do the same. "Treat People with Kindness" is off of his Fine Line album, and he wrote this song based off his slogan. The message of the song is very optimistic; he writes about how there is always a time and place for you to feel good about yourself and to allow others to feel the same way about themselves. He sings about not taking everything so seriously, and that at the end of the day, everything will be alright. This song is very underrated, and if you are ever down in the dumps, this song will be sure to bring you back up. I do not skip this song very often on Spotify because the buoyant melody and optimistic lyrics are refreshing.

8. "She"

"She" is a great song of Harry's that can be interpreted in several different ways. One perspective to look at it is telling the story of a man who spends his time thinking about somebody else, a mistress perhaps. Some fans, on the other hand, speculate that "She" is about Harry internally struggling with his femininity. Not only does this song have room for a variety of interpretations, but it also has a killer guitar solo, making it a great song to play the air guitar to.

7. "Woman"

At number seven is "Woman" from his debut album. This song is a Harry Styles classic. There are so many impressive qualities about this song. To begin, the opening of the song is something I will never get over. It prefaces the song so well, it is indescribable. The instrumentals of this song are also flawless, and the lyrics are very well written. There is not a single thing that I would change about this song.

6. "Sweet Creature"

From his debut album, Harry Styles, "Sweet Creature" discusses the hardships that couples face in a relationship. He recognizes that though they have had their fair share of arguments, they still find their way back to each other. He admits how they ground each other, and when one person is without the other, they are lost. "Sweet Creature" is a very charming record, and it definitely stays in my Spotify queue.

5. "Carolina"

Coming in at number five is "Carolina" off of his first album. This song is almost never skipped, and here's why. In "Carolina," he writes about Townes, a girl he "met once and wrote a song about her" ("Carolina"). Every time I listen to this song, I think about the power that Townes must have to make such an impression on the Harry Styles after just one encounter. I never skip this song when it comes on my Spotify because it serves as a daily reminder of the kind of person I strive to become. Not only is it one of my anthems, but it also has a catchy, care-free tune that will be stuck in your head all day.

4. "Ever Since New York"

"Ever Since New York" is another one of Harry's underrated works, in my opinion. He addresses his uncertainty with pursuing someone. He implies that he already knows that it will not end well, but he is still seeking reassurance from that individual. This is one of his slower pieces with great instrumentals, and I find it to be very calming, therefore I never skip this song.

3. "Fine Line"

At number three is "Fine Line," the finale of his second album. The record is very serene in the beginning but begins to pick up after the second verse. The lyrics illustrate a relationship where the couple cannot help but hurt each other, yet express so much love for the other person at the same time. "Fine Line" is about searching for a solution to the "perfect" relationship, but in the end realizing that nothing, and nobody, is perfect, and that everything will work out. Trying to find the right words to describe how this song makes me feel is near impossible. It is an incredibly beautiful song and a fantastic way to end the album.

2. "Canyon Moon"

The runner-up for the number one spot is "Canyon Moon" off of Fine Line. In "Canyon Moon," Harry reminisces over good memories with a special someone. This is one of my all-time favorite songs by him. Its sanguine melody and nostalgic lyrics make it the perfect road trip song. If I were to define "good vibes" as a song, this would definitely be the song I would choose. There will never be a time where I skip this song on my Spotify.

1. "Golden"

Harry's Fine Line album opens with "Golden," an upbeat, melodic song that is the perfect summer song to blast in your car with all of the windows down. It pumps serotonin into every Harry Styles fan when it comes on. In "Golden," Harry writes about the value of accepting the authentic version of yourself. I believe that this song is an approach for Harry to connect with his past self. He feared expressing his true character because he did not want people to abandon him and leave him alone. He uses "Golden" to present his own personal growth and self-discovery and hopes that his own story can inspire many of his fans to do the same. This song is never skipped on my Spotify, making it number one on my list for a reason. Everything about this song is perfect: the instrumentals, the lyrics, the tone. It physically pains me to skip this song, thus I never do.

Harry Styles is an expert in his field. He is a very intelligent and talented musician who is extremely versatile, making him such a great artist. He's produced expressive, creative albums that are dominating the charts, and it is only the beginning of his solo career. I could not be any prouder to be a Harry Styles fan.
