Freshman year move-in day was so nerve-wracking. It was the first day at a new school where I had to meet new friends and live with a new person. I'll admit, I was extremely nervous to go random. However, after meeting you, I knew that it was the best decision I could've ever made.
From day one, as awkward as it was, I knew that we would end up getting close. After completing the day full of activities that would bring us closer to our hall-mates, we sat inside our room in silence for a while until one of us finally said, "so... do you like... wanna go out tonight or something?" We started getting ready for our night and our bond began with the recognition that we both love country music. The more we got to know each other, the more we realized how similar we are. Eventually, we were inseparable. No matter where we went, we were together. Everybody in our dorm was convinced that we had known each other before college.
I still remember introducing you to the rap world beyond Eminem. Your playlist had consisted of classic oldies (but goodies), country music, a little Green Day here and there, Mac Miller and Eminem. When I heard you rap all the words to Mac Miller's "Donald Trump," I was astonished at the fact that you had never even heard the song "Broccoli" by Dram before. But by the time we were a few weeks into the semester, you made me play "Broccoli" at every single pregame and request it wherever we ended up.
By the end of freshman year, we had a whole list of songs that we just always had to play. I still remember sending you a Snapchat the day we moved out of me sobbing on the way home because the song "Capsize" came on the radio and you weren't there to sing it with me.
Before moving into my college dorm, I wouldn't have imagined that I would've gotten as close to my random roommate, so much as taking her on my family vacation. However, after going through all of our freshman year shenanigans together, I just couldn't go the whole summer without you. From attempting to go tubing in the lake and eating loads of fried chicken in the hot tub, to the endless amount of times we played "20 Questions" in the car, you are what helped make vacation that year so fun and so unforgettable.
The amount of inside jokes we have and hilarious situations we get ourselves into is crazy. We have so many nicknames for people and anyone who overhears us probably thinks we are the weirdest people ever. Our freshman year rap that we made up definitely needs to be a hit single one day. It not only describes our psycho freshman year, but it's also super catchy and still gets stuck in my head all the time.
As silly as we are with each other, I do want to truly thank you for always being there for me. You've seen me at my absolute worst and you're right there to be wild with me when I'm at my best. You've picked me up when I'm down and help me prioritize the important things in my life. You were there for me through a super rough break up, which is something most college students just shove to the side. You literally helped me shower after my surgery until I figured out how to do it on my own, and if that's not a best friend, then I don't know what is. You always defend me and support me and I will forever be thankful for it.
I hope you know that whenever you need me, I'm always here. Any bad day, any issue, you can always come to me about it. I'll be there with a tub of french onion dip ready to listen to everything you want to talk to about it and I'll be there ready to kick somebody's butt if they hurt you.
I love that its junior year and we are still living together. As stressful as our days are, I at least get to come home to my very best friend. From becoming each other's random freshman year roommates to getting our first apartment as sophomores, to now upgrading to a townhouse as a junior, I wouldn't want to spend my college career with anyone else. Thank you for everything and I can't wait for all that's yet to come.
Love always,
your random freshman roomie
