Call me old fashioned, but I use iTunes pretty regularly. A girl has to store her Now That's What I Call Music! CDs somewhere. Still, the media storage program comes with its many, many, issues, and I feel it necessary to list my grievances here to take out my rage. I’m just trying to import a CD WHY DO YOU FREEZE MY LAPTOP EVERYTHING?
For one thing, iTunes takes FOREVER to open. Okay, well, that’s an exaggeration, but I timed it one time: it took 33 seconds for iTunes to open after I clicked on it. That’s slow in internet time. Secondly, updates come often and unwanted. I can usually do my best to ignore them, but that can only go on for so long until the program just stops altogether, and I never want to update iTunes because it takes up a lot of space in my hard drive as well as continually changing its interface. I just got used to this look, why change it now? Who are you, YouTube? You do offer me useless recommendations and shove them in my face whether I want them or not. I didn’t forget that U2 album. I’ll never forget. How dare you.
iTunes also has this pesky authorization policy where your computer must be authorized annually, and you can only have up to five computers authorized on the same iTunes account. This may sound fine, but if your computer unexpectedly crashes, your account is still authorized on it. I have owned a number of laptops in the past, and I usually forget about the authorization (but to be fair iTunes doesn't really give you any reminder). So, when I see the message that I cannot authorize a new computer because I already have five on there, that means deauthorizing all five and then manually reauthorizing the computer(s) I still use. Sure, it's not the end of the world, but it sure is irritating.
iTunes also does not serve to transport music from your iPod to library. I could download a third party app, but that will only take up more space!
Oh! One more thing. You know when you right click an album in your library and out of the list options there is one that reads "get album artwork" where iTunes will automatically go find the album cover to whatever song you just imported. I can tell you right now that nine times out of ten you will receive this message:
So that means pulling up the album cover on Google Images, finding a high resolution picture, saving it to your computer, clicking the "get info" option, clicking "add album artwork," and pulling up your image. I know, I know, this all sounds petty and ridiculous, but you would think for a company as successful as Apple they would know how to make a more functioning, convenient digital media library.
You may be wondering why I haven't committed myself to a streaming platform such as Spotify, Google Play Music, or Apple Music? You would think Apple Music, but they don't offer every song in the iTunes store with Spotify and Google Play Music having an even smaller selection. I just want a functionable place where I can listen to all of my CDs and then some.
