**SPOILER ALERT** If you haven’t seen “A Quiet Place”, you may not want to read this, unless you want to know what it’s about before you see it.
Over the weekend, I saw “A Quiet Place”. Just like a lot of the people who went to see it, I wanted to see it mainly because John Krasinski, also known as Jim from “The Office”, was in it. After I got past the fact that it wasn’t as scary as I hoped for it to be, it was a good movie.
The movie was about a family, that seems to be the last family on Earth, trying to survive by staying quiet or these weird creatures would hunt them. I can’t really describe what the creatures were, but to me, they seemed like demonic/alien dinosaurs.
Since it’s a post-apocalyptic time, the family adapts to surviving in many intriguing ways. For example, the mom was pregnant and the family knew the baby would be loud when he came, so they soundproofed the basement in the barn. They did more cool things to survive, but I don’t want to give away more than I need to.
Going into the movie, I was expecting a really scary movie with demons hunting a family, but that wasn’t the case. I wasn’t scared in the way that I would be with a movie like “Insidious” or “Truth or Dare”. I was scared in the sense that loud noises would come out of nowhere and I would jump.
Another thing that I wasn’t expecting, and didn’t really love, was the fact that the movie started on Day 89. I was a little upset that it didn’t show a little of what life was like before everyone on the Earth was killed. With the movie starting that far into the journey, I had a few questions right away.
How did they initially find out what was going on? How did they get to where they lived in the movie? Did they always live in that house and adapt it to how they had to live now? Or was that some random family’s house that they took and made their own since no one was living there?
Even though that one thing bothered me, I did like a lot of the little things in the movie. The acting and chemistry between the family were so realistic. Even though John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are actually married in real life, their chemistry with the kids felt like they were their actual kids. I also loved the storyline of the post-apocalyptic era, where they were hunting, scavenging, and creating their new ways of living without electricity.
I also liked that since the movie was basically silent, they spoke in sign language and the daughter who was deaf in the movie is actually deaf. I don’t know if Krasinski did that on purpose, but I loved it. Also, throughout the movie, you see the dad constantly working on the daughter’s hearing aid so she can hear. It was a little detailed in most of the movie, but by the end, you see that it turns out to be significant.
Also pictured in the movie is a board that the dad made on “How To Survive”. You can see that it’s filled with all this information that he’s collected over the time the family has been trying to survive against the monsters that are trying to hunt them.
In conclusion, I really liked the movie, even though it wasn’t exactly what I expected. The little things that I liked added up. I loved the storyline, the cinematography, the acting, the chemistry, and the scenery.
If you’re thinking of seeing this movie, go see it. It may not be super scary like some people were probably hoping for, but it really was a good movie and I highly recommend seeing it.
