As an upperclassmen in college, the stress to land the perfect summer internship is REAL!There is this constant fear that you will never a get a job unless you have a kick-butt resume and internship experience. College students send countless emails so that they can have phone calls or coffee dates to increase their networks. The pressure of the real world is extremely overwhelming and scary.
Even though graduation is over a year away, it will be here before we know it. The only way to land those jobs is to have experience. The only way to get that experience is usually through an internship. Internships are extremely competitive! The stress of making a cover letter that makes you stand out and a resume that shows you are different than every other student is so important. We spend hours to days editing our resume, trying to find ways to make it sound more special.
We research and apply for these positions, hoping we will get some replies for interviews. We send follow-up emails to thank the employees at the companies for their time.
Does this sound all too familiar to you? Yes, internships are important, but don't let the process take over all of your time! It should not be the only thing you are thinking about. You still have school, friends, family, etc. You need to make sure you are staying on top of it. However, do not let it become the center of your life.
The pressure is unlike anything else. The real world is calling us and it will be here before we know it. But sometimes, we just need to breathe and remember, everything happens for a reason. Everything will work out! You will get an internship. You can do this!
