When I first moved from the north to a small town in Texas when I was 15, I was surprisingly welcomed with the same 5 questions in the exact order by, literally, and I mean literally, everyone. They are just too perfect not to share.
*All of these events are based on a true story*
1. Where are you from?
Oh, I'm from Pennsylvania!
2. Are you Amish?
*Looks down* ... I mean I'm wearing regular clothes and my hair is down, so I think I'm gonna have to say a hard no.
3. Have you seen Amish people before?
Why is that even a question?
4. Why here, of all places?
Listen, I go where the wind takes me and I guess it blew me here. And here it is I'll stay!
5. What church do you go to?
... We just got here... like this week...
So, lessons learned:
- Texans, at least the ones in my new hometown, are fascinated with the Amish.
- No matter the reason for moving to that location, it will never be enough for a native there.
- Find a church IMMEDIATELY.
However, I wouldn't change my little town for a thing.
