Spring cleaning has double meaning now that we're all forced to stay inside! My cleaning processes have been a bit staggered due to remote learning, but I've got a freakishly long list of all the things I plan on cleaning when I get the chance. Some of these things are a little whacky, but it'll make you feel really good when you're done.
Here are my top ten weird places to clean during the quarantine.
1. The tops of things
GiphySounds pretty self-explanatory, right? Door. frames, picture frames, the mirror attached to your dresser, your fan, the thermostat, and your bed frame! You'll thank me for this one, really. You'd be surprised how dirty your bed frame is, like, how come you didn't notice a place you put your head under every night is so dirty?
2. The insides of drawers
GiphyAfter you organize your bathroom drawers, desk drawers, dresser drawers, bedside table drawers, vacuum & wipe them out! Your things will be cleaner, and you will feel cleaner too!
3. The inside of your lipstick containers
GiphyThey will look SO pretty after you've excavated the crusty overflow or accidental twist-to-the-top stains. Go through your beauty products while you're at it! Your little siblings/cousins would love some of the stuff you never use.
4. The books on your bookshelf!
GiphyI guess this may also count for the tops of things & drawers, but give those books some love! Maybe you'll find one you want to read so give your eyes a break from the constant screens! The headaches have been awful. Thanks, remote schooling.
5. Your windows!
GiphyNot just a windex spritz on the side facing your room, I mean the whole thing. That way you'll be able to see the outside world clearer, since you're not allowed outside!
6. Go through your clothes!
GiphySpring is the perfect time to go through your wardrobe. You'll be out with the old and can get in with the new clothes you buy during summer shopping sprees! Plus donating your clothes feels so good and makes you feel so refreshed, whether you give them to family or truly donate them. Make some room in your closet, then organize it too!
7. While you're at it, go through your jewelry & shoes!
GiphyIf you still live with your parents, you may have to scour the whole house looking for your old shoes you can pitch. And if you're like me and never go through anything normally except my clothes every year, your jewelry really needs a good sort-through.
8. Tackle the junk room!
GiphyOh boy. The dreaded junk room. A lot of it you haven't touched in years, so just sort through it and trash what you need and don't what you don't. Plus, that'll make room for all the new junk you're going to add from going through everything else!
9. Clean your parent's room!
GiphyThey probably bust their butt cleaning the whole house they don't even give a second thought to their room. Do something nice for them!
10. Thoroughly vacuum & maybe reorganize your room!
GiphyEspecially if you're away at college most of the year. Move everything out of the way to vacuum. Your bed, everything! This would be a good opportunity to switch things up. A (sorta) new change in scenery & dust-free carpet. What feels better than that?
There's something comforting about cleaning what's inside when you can't control what's going on around you, especially during times like this. If you need a break from the stress of school, being trapped inside your home, and the virus itself, take a moment to organize around you. It really will make you feel better, even if just for a little bit.
Happy cleaning, and stay healthy!
