Life is very confusing right now. Everyone got ripped out of their daily routine and thrown into a world completely different than the one they're used to, with no real direction as to how to navigate through it. It's been incredibly hard to adjust, whether that be to a new school schedule, to a new work schedule, to bring at home with your whole family, or being completely alone. It's okay to not know exactly what you're supposed to be doing and it's okay to feel lost. And because I don't think it's been said enough or just in case you haven't heard this lately: Everything you're feeling is valid.
It's really hard to adjust to bigger life changes when they happen. That's a given. It's normal to not know exactly how to react or how to adjust and you have to do so without any real direction from anyone. It's easy when things happen and you have to adjust to feel like it's just you going through it. The one common factor we all have in this weird time is that everyone is adjust and you are not alone in anything that you're feeling.
One thing that has also been tough is people who keep saying that you should come out of this time with something accomplished, whether it be a new skill or having a new hobby. People are putting pressure on others to do something with their time and to be honest, that's great for them that they feel empowered to learn something new or start a business or fulfill whatever thing they want to during this side, but that doesn't mean you have to do it too. It is more than okay that your adjusting to this time is taking everything you have. It is more than okay to take more time for self-care and self-love because you're feeling overwhelmed or anxious or lost with all of these big things happening. You do not need the added pressure of having to accomplish some big thing like learning a new language or losing weight or whatever else the world is throwing at you as a "successful quarantine" because just surviving it and finding happiness day to day might be what's right for you.
Everything you're going through right now is valid. Some days you might wake up feeling energized and great. Other days it might be incredibly hard for you to slap a smile on your face and get through it. All of that is okay. It's okay to not feel like you have the capacity to take on anything other than this adjustment and making sure you're okay. It's okay to get down to work and fulfill whatever dream you're working on. The biggest thing is to always, first and foremost, make sure you're okay. And although I almost break-out into High School Musical song and dance every time I hear it, it's comforting to know We're All In This Together.
