It's cold, gloomy, and depressing all winter long (unless it's December because duh, the holidays do not sound gloomy at all!) This winter, make sure you're winning even when you're losing. Do not allow yourself to succumb to the gloomy weather, situations, and environment. Instead, find ways to win enough for you to look back at this month and season thinking, "wow, I had such a great winter in 2017!" Here are a few ways to achieve success and satisfaction with yourself as we gear up for winter break:
1. Spontaneous outings
You do not have to plan anything. Leave the planning before you; that was SO "last semester"! Spontaneous outings will help you recognize how carefree you can be and who your good friends are. These outings will help you learn so much more about your friends, your friend groups, little pleasures, and the beauty and childlike joy in waking up at 7 AM one morning, subsequently texting your friend to hike the Appalachian trails with you.
You grow closer to the person you are spending time with, and you learn more about interactions and who you like to associate with. Pre-panned outings can do otherwise. You'd be obliged to be happy or to attend an event with them, unlike spontaneous ones.
Let's be real, the person you have spontaneous outings with is probably a really close friend if you're willing to go out of your way for them. Pre-planned ones, however, just show that you're organized and that you spend time with each and every friend: but do you really want to go out of your way for all of these people?
2. Being both productive AND lazy
Make time for simply laying back and relaxing by catching up with the news, latest music, (not dramas because then you'll simply get hooked and won't stop the binge!) It is important to have a fine balance between relaxing and studying. You cannot focus well by stressing either one. Life is better after you find and practice that balance for yourself.
3. Expressing yourself
Whether it's through going on adventures or laying back and reading all of the latest Y/A novels, express yourself this winter break and do not waste time because you'll regret it once the new semester starts.
