Have you ever noticed that college students are particularly drawn to puppies and babies? Well, I have! And I have a theory about it.

I think it's such a breath of fresh air for college kids to see babies or puppies to break up the monotony of their day. College can be extremely stressful, and being in the same routine day after day can be boring. Sometimes, it's just so exciting to see a happy face that can't groan at you when you say hello to it.

These little tiny versions of our favorite creatures give us a sense of hope to carry us on through the day. Seeing pups or babies can often be the best part of our days as college students, and we feel we have to tell everyone about our encounter. It has been proven that puppies are therapeutic and can make people feel better and feel less stress. For this reason, they often bring dogs to campuses during finals week when tensions are high and the need to see a happy face is even higher. We have to try to take care of ourselves as best as we can and keep our esteem up in any way possible, and I think it's easy for us to be drawn to the cute little irresistible faces we may see around town or on campus.

I think college kids tend to feel lost sometimes and don't know what direction they want to take their lives in, but I think finding a cute pup or a happy baby can make us feel like we aren't totally useless because this little being loves you no matter what and is so happy to see you. Babies and puppies don't care if you're failing your classes or if you're running low on money. They only care if you can give them love and give them attention and if you can play with them. Being able to give this kind of affection very easily makes us feel that we are invincible and can take on whatever the world may throw at us. We may not have our whole lives together, but at least, in this moment, I can give love and attention to this little bundle of joy and it will make them feel just as good as it makes me feel. This makes me feel that caring for something other than ourselves makes it easier to feel like we aren't all messed up, and we have some hope.

Also, babies and puppies have so much potential. They aren't able to speak, and they can't express their knowledge to us, but they will most likely grow to be a bigger version of themselves with an unending number of possibilities that their life can amount to be. I think children and puppies are the future of what we will be and love, and they will help change the world. Maybe that pup will become a police or military dog, or maybe he'll just make some special family very happy. A baby is full of wonder and has so much to learn. Maybe they'll become the next president or the person who marries your child one day. These little cuties can make a huge difference in the world, and it could start from the day you see them walking on campus, or in a store.

I know I'm not the only one who shares these beliefs about this phenomenon. Nine times out of ten, even the toughest of people walking around with a resting grumpy face on, will stop to say hi to an excited puppy or look into the fashionable stroller to say hi to a smiling baby.

Next time you're feeling down, go find your nearest pups or babies ASAP! Babies and puppies make people feel better, and how could you not love a face like that!
