Every one of us, no matter what our cultural backgrounds are, we have a certain stereotype. I, a Latina, have many stereotypes. Let me just name a few. I'm Puerto Rican, but I'm not...
1. "Spicy"
Okay, what is that even supposed to mean? If you're trying to be cute or relatable, it's not working.
2. Sexual
Not every Puerto Rican girl expresses their sexuality like JLo. And there is nothing wrong with that.
3. Illiterate
Which explains why I'm sitting right here, writing this article con mi bilingual wit.
4. Monolingual
I can speak dos lenguajes at the same time y sin problemas. Touché.
5. Illegal
I hate the term illegal as if human beings like you and I had some otherness to them. Puerto Ricans are US citizens by birth.
6. Angry
Anger is a natural emotion within all of us. That doesn't mean I'm always angry.
7. Good at dancing
I have two left feet and my salsa skills are -0.
8. Fond of "Despacito"
It was cool at first but now I can't bear to listen to it.
9. A fan of avocado
You're welcome, Chipotle.
10. "Too dark" to be Puerto Rican
We all come in all shades and beautiful colors. Stop generalizing by what you've been exposed to on a minimal level.
11. "Too light" to be Puerto Rican
Bro.
12. Living off the government
Some of us do a little thing called work and without any help from anybody.
13. Loud
I'm actually the quiet friend that everybody thinks I don't care about anything, but in fact, I'm just low key tuning into your conversations. Trust me I know everything.
14. Crazy
It seems as if nowadays it's become almost trendy to be a "crazy gf". Trust me, that's unhealthy.
Everything is not what is always seems to be!
