Growing up in this society is hard. You have to act, dress, and present yourself a certain way. It gets old fast. Why can't we be our own person? Why do people feel the need to judge us? I ask myself this all the time.
No one should be able to lower our self-esteem. It should be a rule. At a lacrosse clinic that I recently went to, we were encouraged to fill up other's peoples gas tank (aka compliment others). The reasoning behind it is that when we are complemented, we perform better. Having this mindset in 2017 is huge! It is great that some adults throw it in our faces and say point blank: "Be nice to everyone."
You are not the problem - always remember that. You do not need to change. Society needs to change as a whole. We need to all work together to change the way people act towards each other. We need to create a society where everyone can be their self. No one should feel the need to hide behind makeup, baggy clothes, or social media. No one should feel the need to pretend to be someone they are not just to fit in. What is really cool is being yourself because you are unique. There is no one in the world that looks and/or acts like you. No one in the world is you.
You have a very important job. I have a very important job - we all do. We, as the entire human population that is forever growing, need to show others that we care. We need to be nice to everyone. We cannot judge a book (or person) by their cover. We need to get to know the person - never let anyone's opinions sway yours.
Most importantly, stay true to yourself. Why, you may ask? Because I love you. There are people in this world that love you for the person you are. Never change you because you are beautiful.
