This short prose was written during school, inspired by an image of an extinguished candle. Despite it was a school assignment, I truly enjoyed examining a simple image of merely an extinguished candle and analyzing it from a unique perspective.
The flame was extinguished. The bright light, completely wiped out, became non-existent from the human eye. The once seen gamut of warm colors disappeared.
The wispy smoke slowly rose from the candle wick, turning black. The dull black morphed into a variety of ominous colors, ranging from midnight blue to dark lavender. The colors blended almost naturally, forming a colorful image of miniature northern lights.
Arising from the candle wick was a complex system of curved lines that managed to form a unique shape: the ballet form known as the scorpion. These lines embraced one another, overlapping repeatedly. Yet the remains of the flame that became wispy lines of smoke appeared to be detached from the candle wick.
The complex figure of the smoke lines contrasts with the smooth transition that connects the smoke and candle wick. The transition was thin and stretched out until it could no longer be seen. Only then could the shape of the smoke dissipate once it was disconnected from the wick.
