Going back to college can be a bittersweet moment for many students. It is exciting to go back to the place where you have all the freedom in the world, but you are not quite ready to give up the home cooked meals and being able to have your own room. Here are some pros and cons of the situation:
Pros: Weather is a big one for me. I came from New Jersey where it averages around 30 degrees every day, here it is closer to 75 degrees. The cold is nice for Christmas and New Years, but past that I am ready for sunny 75 degree weather that Florida can provide me. Here I also do not feel like I have to dodge people that went to my high school when I go to a grocery store. No one from my graduating class came to the same college as me, so I don’t have to worry about those awkward encounters. There is also much more to do in my college town than the town where I live. When I am home on breaks there is never much to do or places to go, but down in Florida there is a different thing to do every day. There are also friends that I have made at my college that I only see when I am there, so that always makes it fun to be able to go and see them.
Cons: Going back to classes. This one is huge for me because I am definitely not ready for the responsibility of school work again. Winter break was not long enough for me to recover from the trauma that was my first semester. Also, it is always sad to say goodbye to the friends that you have in your hometown when you are leaving after a break. Along with that, it is also hard to say goodbye to family that you are leaving in your home town as well. And the hardest goodbye, of course, is any pets that you’re leaving behind. Saying goodbye to your furry friends is the most heartbreaking part of college that I have found so far.
There is always good and bad when having to go back to college after a long break.
