Merry Birthday to me

Pros and Cons of December Birthdays

Having a December birthday is literally the best and the worst. Having everyone in the Christmas spirit around my birthday is one of my favorite perks. Not only that, but having a Christmas tree and seeing all the houses decorated is hands down the best birthday visually. Though, it has it's many cons as well. I'm not entirely sure if every December birthday can relate, but my birthday is December 17th. That's literally a week away from Christmas Eve. That being said, I made a list of all of the pros and cons of having my birthday so close to Christmas.

Pro: Getting more Christmas gifts than your siblings

Having a birthday so close to Christmas means you get a few extra gifts than your siblings around the holidays. It's kind of a satisfying if you think about it.

Con: Getting less birthday gifts than your siblings

This also means you kind of get gipped on your Birthday. Birthday/Christmas gifts really mean "I don't have the money to get you Christmas AND Birthday gifts, so you'll have to settle for an early Christmas gift. I mean Birthday gift..."

Pro: Snow!

You can't beat waking up on your birthday to a beautiful snowfall. Looking out your window and everything being covered in snow is quite amazing.

Con: Snow...

Good luck going anywhere or seeing anyone. Not many people will be able to visit you when there's a blizzard and roads are closed.

Pro: Easy to remember your birthday

If you have a birthday very close to Christmas, it actually makes it easier for people to remember. You are the "December baby" or the "Christmas baby."

Con: Very easy to forget your birthday

Though sometimes with it being so close to the holidays, your birthday will often get overshadowed by Christmas. People become very busy during the holidays and your birthday becomes forgotten.

Pro: Birthday themes are very easy

If you are someone who likes to throw parties, then you probably never struggled to find a birthday theme. Let's be real, your house is probably already festive-looking with all the Christmas decorations. Your work is basically done!

Con: It's kind of hard to have any other birthday theme

Having the same theme every year for your birthday probably gets old. And it's hard to pick another theme when everyone's already in the Christmas spirit. Can I really ask my mom to take down all of the Christmas decorations just for my birthday and then REDO it all for Christmas?

Pro: Holiday parties

If you aren't really into having your own parties, chances are you can go out and party anywhere! Someone's always having a party for the holidays!

Con: But where's the cake...

Though this means you'll miss out on cake and the focus isn't really on you anymore. It kind of defeats the whole purpose?

Pro: No school!

You don't need to get up early, study, or deal with any type of stress.

Con: No School...

But this means you miss out on seeing all of your friends for your birthday. You'll have to go out of your way to make plans to see everyone. Remember those cool kids in school that would hand out cupcakes to the class on their birthday? Yeah. I was never that kid.

Pro: You probably wouldn't want it any other way!

Sure it sucks at times, but it wouldn't be YOUR birthday any other way!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
