The 2016 Rio Olympics have been one for the books: records have been shattered, dopers have been banned and pools have turned green. Some of the more memorable moments for the US teams have been Michael Phelps earning his 23rd gold medal, Simone Biles dominating the all around gymnastics finals and Simone Manuel becoming the first black woman to win an individual gold in swimming. Despite this amazing showing, I think we can all agree that the true entertainment, and real highlight of the 2016 Rio Olympics, has been the US Men's Basketball team's Snapchats.
Snapchat has created ways to make watching important sporting events, such as the Olympics, easy and interactive with its story features and its "Live" geotags. Both features allow everyone worldwide to watch highlights from athletes, coaches and spectators' snapchat stories in order to feel like a part of the group. The basketball team has capitalized on that and made the most amazing snap stories of all time.
During some of the early days, the team traveled to famous Rio landmarks such as the famous "Christ the Redeemer" statue. Naturally, the Golden State Warriors player Draymond Green captured the moment:
Speaking of Green, his Snapchat might be in the running for MVP because he has successfully captured many team members sleeping:
Along with Green's constant sleep snaps, Kyrie Irving has been killing the game with his constant documentation and referencing of teammate Carmelo Anthony:
But of course, some of my personal favorites have come from the team's constant support for other athletes at various sporting events. Most recently they attended a boxing match and shared some amazing moments that only people as amazingly tall as them can understand.
A few days ago, as many people probably noticed, they became huge Michael Phelps fans, and their snapchats at one of Phelps' key events were priceless works of art.
What's great is they let us know when they are just enjoying life
Not to mention they thank their moms after winning:
But most of all, they annoy each other like we all annoy our own friends and we remember they are just like us. Because we follow them on Snapchat, we are friends with them, too:
So thanks Melo, Draymond, KD and Kyrie for making the Olympics that much better for all of us Snapchatters out there.
