My Promises To My Next Roommates

I promise you this.

My Promises To My Next Roommates

To My New Roommates Come August,

I want to start by thanking you for taking care of me last year. Either it is from needing to take a quick trip to Walmart, wanting to go get food, or even taking me to the health center on campus from all the times I was sick (let's hope my immune system is ready for this next year and we don't have a repeat). You were willing for anything.

In August, we will be moving into a sorority house with 80+ other girls and the four of us in a little room. Because tension might get high at sometimes, I want to make you a few promises and I hope you're willing to make the same.

The first, when something is bothering one of us, we tell each other. I may be good at reading the vibes people send off, but none of us are mind readers (well, not that I know of). We can't/won't fix what we don't know is wrong. Since it is such a small space, we are going to have to work on it together.

The second, I promise to bring the least amount of drama possible. We will be living with 80+ girls, there will be drama, let's just try to make sure it's not between us.

Third, I promise, I will be checking up on you if you aren't back by the time you say you will be. Maybe it's just the mom friend in me, but if you say you're going to be home by midnight and you aren't, I can promise that by 12:10 you'll have a message checking up on you.

Fourth, if you wake me up to go get breakfast I'll go, I just might complain. It might not appear like it when you're in the process of waking me up early on a Saturday, but I do (somewhat) enjoy waking up and going for breakfast.

Fifth, I will always be up for an adventure. If it's going to McDonald's after a chapter meeting or at insane hours (Lauren already knows), I'm down. Need an outfit for a date/interview/anything? I'll go with. Even if it's going to the library to get some studying down, I'll go. I hate going places by myself so I will for sure be ready to go anywhere with anyone.

Sixth, if you're sick, I will probably mom you. We are decently away from our parents so I will be making sure you took your medicines, that your fever is gone, or drive you to the doctor. If you don't want me to, I'll try my best to not worry, but secretly I will be.

I am so excited to move in with you guys in less than 2 months. I cannot wait for this semester to bring us even closer together and to build our friendships strong.

See you in August,

Your New Roommate

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
