5 Dreams Millennial Women Have Instead Of Having Kids

Women should feel that they can be anything they want to be, even if that does not include the title of mom.

5 Dreams Millennial Women Have Instead Of Having Kids
Madison Payton Cole

This is a letter for the women that CAN wait to get married and have children. That's right, CAN wait. First of all, I feel it is essential to tell you that its OK if domestic life is not for you. There are many people that are not married or that do not have children and they still live just fine.

If you're like me, nothing scares you more than the idea of being a stay-at-home mom. What can I say, other then its just not for me, and it is perfectly OK. Never feel forced to want what everyone else wants. You are your own person for a reason.

I am a woman of ambition and dreams but those dreams do not consist of getting married or having babies. My lifelong dream has always been to live and have a career in New York City.

I often find my friends and family are primarily concerned about relationships romantically or even socially but that just has never been the focus of my life. I am an opportunist that is dream driven. I went away for two Disney College Programs in Orlando, Florida and Anaheim, California simply for the opportunity. I find the most value and meaning from my life experiences.

For those who dream about more than the domestic life, you may have dreams of the following things, but keep in mind that dreaming is a limitless activity.

1. Traveling

Traveling offers the opportunity to learn about cultures, yourself and the world around you. It's the best way to gain eye-opening experiences that will change your life for the better.

2. Moving to a new City

Moving can be uncomfortable but I believe it is always worth the risk. There is so much to gain by going out of your comfort zone and exerting yourself in a new place. Why not move to LA, NYC, or Miami like you have always wanted too!

3. Working your Dream Job

So there's this thing called college, and I personally believe that if you take the right classes, get involved in the right activities and score some internships, your dream job is completely possible. It will take a lot of hard work but as long as you put the effort in, only you can control what your fate will be.

4. Start your own Business

Why not be kick-ass businesswomen? The world needs more people like you who aspire to work hard and take an initiative in their life. With the internet explosion, the rise of entrepreneurs and start-ups has increased as well. Set a goal, ready, set, aim, and go for it.

5. Grad School

If your years of undergrad just aren't enough for you, or you aspire a job in psychology, law, or medical field, Grad school is always an option to take your education up a notch.

Overall I just want women to feel that they can be anything they want to be, even if that does not include the title of mom. There are so many options out there if you have the faith and inspiration to pursue it.

Now, what are you waiting for?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
