2017 was another year of growth and memories, and I hope 2018 treats me just as well. Here are just a few monumental memories from each month:

January:

Threw my first surprise birthday party for a friend

Started my first internship in a Kindergarten class

February:

Went to my new church’s Valentine's Day banquet for the first time

Celebrated a friend’s birthday at a bowling alley

Ran for president for a school club for the first time

Got a camera for my 17th birthday

March:

Started bullet journaling with a friend for the first time

Got a bad cold and took nebulizer for the first time

Taught my first lesson as an intern

Reached my SAT goal

April:

Traveled to Key West and Miami for first time

Celebrated friend’s birthday in downtown Duluth

First picnic with friend

May:

Planned an end of the year part as an intern

Hiked Indian Seats for the first time

Passed NOCTI exam

Received and signed for FCCLA award

Graduated junior year

June:

Reached out by famous media company for my Youtube video

Flew to New York to see family

Met my new baby cousin and uncle for the first time

Walked through Central Park for the first time

Went to my new church’s summer retreat for the first time

Visited Ark Encounter for the first time

Visited Creation Museum for the first time

July:

Took senior pictures with a friend

Experienced Lanier World with friends for the first time

Overcame my fear of lakes

Went swimming at midnight for the first time

Visited by dream college for the first time

Started guitar lessons for the first time

Went thrift shopping for the first time with a friend

Celebrated friend’s birthday at karaoke

First Hillsong concert with friends

August:

Cried in school for the first time on the first day of senior year

Held rabbits for the first time with a friend

Made new friendships with special needs students

Ate at bonbon and Caffe Bene with friends

Spent the solar eclipse day on college applications with friends

Cut my hair into bangs spontaneously for the first time

September:

Tried food truck food at Suwanee Town Center for the first time with friends

Got my nails done at a nail salon for the first time

Went to volunteer at No Longer Bound for the first time with friends

Surpassed by SAT goal

Surpassed by ACT goal

Ate and talked at Rustic Couch for the first time with friends

Traveled to Disney Springs with family

Traveled to Animal Kingdom with family

Traveled to Magic Kingdom with family

October:

Experienced first football game in high school with friends

Submitted first college application

Started writing for Odyssey

Went to local fair for the first time with friends

Went to last homecoming with friends

Celebrated friend’s birthday at steakhouse

Went to first Atlanta United FC soccer game with family

Started tutoring a first grader for the first time

Joined 10/40 club

November:

Cooked arepas for the first time

First friendsgiving with youth group bible study group

First friendsgiving with EM congregation

Went to first Everest conference

December:

Signed up for Night to Shine prom

Uploaded first makeup tutorial on Youtube

Ate at Brusters with bible study group

Snowed for the first time in 2017

Played Animal Crossing for the first time

Received first college acceptance

First driving mishap

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
