If you're not spending Delaware's long seven-week winter break taking classes during the university's popular winter session or taking classes abroad, life at home can get pretty boring. Here are a few ideas that I've been using to indeed keep myself busy.
Of course, we all want that ideal break that a majority of other students receive at different schools. However, the University of Delaware gives us a long break compared to a much shorter break.
As all of our home friends that we grow up with go back to school, we tend to find ourselves stuck in boredom binge-watching Netflix series. I like to binge watching tv shows as much as the next person, however, that can get boring too! After experiencing this winter break freshman year, I decided to play out my sophomore winter break differently.
First, money talks. We all want a huge paycheck or a great amount of cash in our wallets. Finding a job for this amount of time is hard. Try to find family members or friends who need a babysitter.
Thankfully, I found exactly that. At the moment I work for my cousin with two kids. I work for her Monday through Friday for two hours every morning. My job consists of making them breakfast and putting them on the bus from 7 to 9 every morning. As we are family, I get paid pretty well. To me, it's not so much a job. I get to see my cousin and her children every day, which is honestly a blessing.
Straight from this, I usually spend an hour at my gym I belong to. I really enjoy exercising because it relieves any unnecessary stress I've been having and lets my mind relax, as mental activity is just as tiring as physical activity.
I, for the most part, run for two to three miles then do different workouts I learned for my abdomen and other parts of my body. I leave the gym feeling healthier than before I get there, which excites me for what the rest of the days normally have for me.
I come home, shower, have some tea, and sit in bed for a few hours to read the books I have been reading and watch some tv shows on Netflix. I take delight in romance novels. I just started a series by Erin Watt called Paper Princess, and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre.
As for Netflix, I just started "Stranger Things" and "Orange is the New Black." I normally don't binge watch shows during the semesters because I would get highly distracted, so now is a great time to do so.
On weekends, I would head up to Vermont and go skiing, or I would take day trips to closer mountains near me. Since I have a season pass, I am going to take advantage of this weather as much as possible.
In addition to all of this, I would end the day with my friends or family. Truthfully, none of this gets boring for me. I genuinely enjoy every day and have yet to be bored.
Make an effort in your life by working or doing strenuous activities. Set a goal for yourself, and I promise you won't be bored for the slightest second.
