Glasses are the best. They're a million and one times easier than contacts-- all you do is slip 'em on in the morning and you're good to go. No eye touching, no replacing contact fluids and no super irritated eyes each time you get the smallest speck of dust in one of your contacts. Glasses are the real MVP.
However, all good things must have their faults. As an avid glasses/ contact switcher (I like to change it up), I can attest that, like contacts, glasses have a downside. Here are a few problems anyone who wears glasses will face in their day-to-day lives:
1. That weird sweat thing
I can't be the only one this happens to. You know when you do the most minor physical activity and you get sweat pooled up underneath where your glasses sit on your face? Me too, and it's the worst.
2. The rain is your enemy
You know how rain looks really nice when it's hitting your windows? Well, it's not nearly as pretty to look at when it's dripping down the glass that helps you to see.
I think the universe is out to get me-- every single time I choose to wear my glasses, I get poured on. It's something, I'll tell ya.
3. Trying to eat anything remotely hot is a pain
Steam, why ya gotta do me like this? All I wanted to do was eat some soup, and now I can't see. It's also slightly terrifying when you open up the stove and your glasses immediately get covered in a white sheen.
It's not like stoves are hot or anything. It's totally cool that I can't see right now!
4. Smudges
Thanks Crizal, but I bet even your lenses don't completely prevent smudges.
Every glasses-wearer ends up wiping their glasses off on their shirts at least twice a day, despite the fact that it makes us look like big nerds. You don't realize how much you (or other people, I don't know your life) touch your face in a day until you start wearing glasses.
5. The inevitable glasses switch
If you've ever been wearing glasses at the same time as someone you know, odds are you're going to switch them "just to see how bad their vision is." For some reason, having the worst vision is some kind of competition.
It's the same every time-- someone will say "dude, you're blind!" and someone else will say, "wow, I see great out of these!" It never gets old.*
*It gets pretty old.
6. Taking them off and being completely blind
Glasses are not like contacts. Shocking, right? You actually have to take them off sometimes and, on these occasions, you will feel just like Ron Burgundy in "Anchorman 2"-- totally blind, that is.
7. Growing attached to your old frames
Sure, glasses can be a big pain. However, we live so much of our life in them, it's easy to become attached. When it's time to get a new frame and scrap the old ones, it can be hard to say goodbye. They really kind of become a part of us.
You might have your flaws, glasses, but you're pretty alright. Thanks for being there on mornings I'm too lazy to put contacts in.
