It's pretty common knowledge that St. Patty's Day is the biggest day of the year in Newark, Delaware. There's no way of avoiding students decked out for the celebration all weekend long, and who would want to anyway? When March 17th rolls around, daging is back in full swing and it's the best excuse to avoid chores or homework in favor some Insta worthy parties. Here's how to get ready for the festivities that are just days away.

1. Stock up on green EVERYTHING.

Hit up the 5 and 10 on Main street or make a trip over to the Christiana Mall because you will need a lot of options if you want enough green clothing to last the entire weekend. Maybe cloverleaf sunglasses, a Leprechaun hat or a "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" t-shirt to complete the look. Getting decked out in St. Patty's Day attire is all a part of the occasion.

2. Catch up on sleep this week.

YOU'RE GOING TO NEED IT. It's all fun and games until you're too exhausted to even show up to the party. Make sure to actually go to bed before 2 am because it's pretty much a guarantee that on the 17th, resting won't be an option unless you want to suffer from FOMO as your friends have fun without you.

3. Don't delay making plans.

With such a busy weekend ahead, there's no time to figure out where the pregame will be or who's calling the Uber at the last minute. Make sure the group chat has at least some sort of idea about what the next couple days will entail. There's bound to be some mishaps, but this should prevent a few.

4. Get creative.

Put on the sparkly green nail polish you've been dying for a reason to wear. Even if you're not a beer drinker, have a taste because it's the only time of year green beer is available to you and why not be festive? Use lots of green glitter because every holiday is the best excuse for lots and LOTS of the stuff.

5. Take tons of pictures.

There's no denying one of the best parts of St. Patrick's Day at UD is the guaranteed Instagram. With the whole crew dressed up and the hours of dage as proof of how much fun you're all having, it makes for the perfect post. All your friends at other schools will undoubtedly be jealous that their schools don't do St. Patrick's Day as well as Delaware. Try not to go overboard with Snap stories all weekend though. We've all been there.

Whether you're a freshman or a senior enjoying your last March 17th at UD, make the most of this coming weekend and get ready to add a whole bunch of new memories to your bank.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
