Prayer: Asking Or Thanking

Do you spend too much time asking?

Prayer is something that we so often take for granted and don't always think about the importance of it.

I feel like there are so many times where prayer is this way where we can go to God and just throw down everything we're dealing with or it does a complete 360 and it is something that we just feel obligated to do because we're with other people. Although these are things that can and do happen, there is so much more to prayer than just that.

Prayer gives us the space to just be with God. You could start a prayer and just sit with God in that space and see what He says to you if you are asking him for guidance or for help. Or if not it can become a space where you can just sit with God. Prayer can also be a place to just talk with God or ask Him for something. Now don't get me wrong with what I say next because prayer is a wonderful and amazing thing that we have because it gives us the ability to have a conversation with God. But I think so often in today's society, prayer has become something that is just a lot of asking and asking God for things. This is not a bad thing to ask God for things, but it feels like that is a majority of what prayer has become.

Asking for things in prayer is not a bad thing, but when it takes over prayer it can be. Sometimes we need to be able to just stop and thank God, there is so much that He does for us and a lot of it we don't always realize. Thanking God in prayer is something that we should do more often, even if it is just a short "Dear God thank you for everything you do" prayer, it does not matter, but it would show God great respect. If someone does something for you, you're going to thank them because that is the right and polite thing to do. So why is it that when God does things for us, we tend to not say thank you?

Now don't get me wrong, I know that people do say thank you and all, but I just feel like I see more people asking for things from God than thanking God for what He has given them. In the end, I think that we just need to spend some more time thanking God. I mean we can still ask Him for things or guidance, but we also need to thank Him. No matter what He is still going to be there for us through thick and thin and He will always listen to the requests that we bring to Him.

Finally, God is always going to be there and He will always listen to us. Prayer is a wonderful gift that we have from God as a way that we can spend time and talk with Him. Prayer is such a great thing that we shouldn't take advantage of, we should be able to balance asking and thanking in our pryer life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
